I would package both for McTavish tomorrow. McTavish is a much harder to get player; he’s a top end 2C at minimum. Cates is a 3C at best on a contending team and Foerster looks like he will top out as a 2nd line winger if he even gets there. The Flyers could replace both in the back half of this draft alone. - psuhockey
Cates is 26. How old and what will his role be if the Flyers ever become contenders? I do not see him as a core player in 3/4 plus years. This could very easily be a case of the Flyers once again falling in love with their own players. Something they said they cant do. |

Agree.
What is tough for me is he is coming off a deal of 2.6 this season and will be an RFA. For his role, I don't want to be overpaying. Yes I get the cap is going up for those people but what's his next deal? 5x5? Do I want to do a deal longer then 2 years for a bottom 6 role player?

He will get at least 5 years. Can’t imagine he gets a bridge deal unless that is on the Flyers end.
Can’t wait to see the dollar amount. It’s asking too much to sell high. |

Trent Frederic (significant) haul as a rental strengthens PHI's position w/ Laughton. Just a 1st may not be enough for PHI to move him, who is cost controlled with another year remaining on his deal at a cap friendly #.
Lots of calls but nothing moving yet.

It’s like the Boiler Room. Pump and dump. These beats are lap dogs.
Was it really a significant haul? Doesn’t seem like to to me. |

Dreger saying as many as 8 teams now circling Laughton with center market shrinking. 1sts are in play but Briere might let week play out to see about more then just a 1st. |

And I can't get my head around 5 years. You would basically be doing the Laughton deal. They need to stop signing these bottom 6 guys to long term deals. I would rather pay a little more to keep term down. |

O’Reiily and Nelson are two centers who are probably available. Both Will cost more though they can be difference makers. Schenn could still be moved if his price is met as teams will never shut the door completely seeing where the Blues are at. Kadri unlikely. Then you have the next tier all of whom been rumored to be available: Middelstat, Cozens, Zegras, Frederick, Tanov, Gourde, Donato, and even Hayes to an extent. Probably missing a few.
Teams will have some options besides Laughton. Do teams view him as a center or winger? This hyping of Scot Laughton is truly a sight to behold. Don’t recall seeing anything like this that I can recall in recent memory. - Striiker
If he gets traded, which I highly doubt happens, some team and their fans are going to be sorely disappointed with the acquisition. I just don't see anything but a 4th line winger on a good team. |

Trade market starting to show signs of movement. If TOR and NJ make moves and Laughton is not involved, then I feel he won't be traded. Stay tunwd. |

I am going to go surprise move off the top rope.
In a three way trade with money retained by a 3rd team, Laughton and Risto both end up in Toronto.

If the Flyers retained on both you’re looking at 2 players to the same team for a combined 4.5 cap hit. Wonder how many teams that would get to the table.
Flyers not smart enough to come up a “complex” deal like that. |

They can’t retain since they want to burn the capspace on a UFA this summer. |

The Flyers play the game the right way and do things off the ice the right way. Laughton is playing tonight and the team is playing to win. Important two points up for grabs.
Blistering sellers market for centers be damned. |

McTavish would be interesting as he is an RFA too so both he and York would make sense since both need new deals.
I wouldn't love moving Forester but I also don't think he is someone that would make me hold up the deal.
Agree with Cates, I see him as a 3rd line center at most, maybe even closer to an elite 4th line center on a contender.
Agreed. He's barely worth the tape around his stick but probably more than a mouthpiece. Lol ! |

No reason to retain on Laughton, cheap contract.

Are 4th line centers used to shut down other teams top lines?

Plenty of reasons to retain. Let’s play a game. See if you can think of 3. |
