Ok, thought about it more. I don't hate it.
We will always think the price is high, but inflation hits everything, including teams and athletes.
Not a rental. Retained. No leverage. Multiple bidders likely. FILLS A HOLE.

Carolina turned a fumble into a fumble recovery. Could very well turn into a fumble recovery TD. |

I don’t know a lot about Laughton but apparently he’s a bulldog and Keith yandle calls him a Datsyuk lite. Has the skill to play 1st line or play 4th line if that’s what you need from him. - bryant

Effectively Carolina trades Rantanen, Necas, Jack Drury, a 2nd, 3rd and a 4th for Hall, Stankoven and 2 1sts
That's not a trade that a team thinking they are winning the cup makes. They need to flip those 2 1sts for something big. |

Kind of unfair to include Rantanen in that since he's also gone. Carolina STARTED with Necas and Drury and some picks and kind of just shuffled the deck chairs
Wouldn't it be Necas, Drury, 2nd, 3rd and 4th for Stovanen, Hall and 2 firsts?

I think it'll be
Domi-Laughton-Jarnkrok
Lorenz-Kampf-Holmberg
McMann on line 2. Robertson/Dewar for injuries or moved today. |

On one of the radio stations I heard.. Rantanen let his agent do the negotiation and had no idea that the agent was playing hardball. So he was floored by the trade.
Carolina offered more than 12 x8 and he turned it down.

Its not backwards....yes they are all signed, but having all 4 signed and making lots of trades at a lot of deadlines in the past havent resulted in any success so far. How many times are we going to do the same thing? Prices are crazy high right now.
Get a 4/5 Dman and depth center and see how the superstars play this year in the playoffs. If they show they can win a couple of rounds....then it makes it easier to go all in. IMO, they dont deserve for the team to go all in.
Besides, how many teams in the past have made big splashes at the deadline and won a cup? Not many. Most fill in gaps or get that one top 3/4 D or 2nd line player.
Anywho, we'll see. Make a splash, cool. Dont make a splash, cool.
If our "superstar" center and winger dont step up in the playoffs it wont matter what takes place today. - Fakepartofme
Yup. Laughton won't matter one way or the other. We gave up a first for a very marginal upgrade.
