I wonder what Carolina could have given us for us to move Rakell - 123Kid
It seemed like they were desperate if this deal is real. |

That is why I am hoping it is a huge deal for us! Picks, prospect, young talent! Everything!!!

Question if anyone knows...
It looks like practically every one of our players were on front loaded contracts. Is there a specific reason for this? I get it makes them a bit more attractive trade wise, but its not like we were planning on that 2 years ago specifically. - Guile
Cross between the players wanting it that way and the Pens having the money. The club had always been more worried about cap space than actual dollars ever since that '05 lockout.
I know they did it with Sid's last contact too |

I feel like that's fine. With the way teams are willing to spend, he'll still have plenty of value this off-season if they want to move him. Gives Dubas time to look around for another top 6 winger out there. |

I’m not mad at that. Offseason cap jump could get more teams interested thus driving up the price. Or we keep him, he’s good and affordable. |

Does anyone know the cap situation this off-season after these moves? I know Glass was an RFA, but wasn't sure if that put something in the expected cap space...

Honestly, if he keeps Sid happy, I'm good either way. This rebuild could end up being a retool if Dubas decides to move picks for younger players.
I feel like KD has been playing franchise mode on an EA game this last year lol. |

I have to believe Carolina probably tried their best to acquire Rakell if not they honestly are the biggest losers of the deadline.
I do think we missed out on selling high on Grz which is a bummer. Karlsson hopefully goes for a solid return this offseason. I also hope we set up a solid Rakell deal this offseason. |

He has 3 years left on his deal after this year, probably term coming back on some bad player Doobie didn't want.

Been saying that for a while. In theory, Dubas could try to flip assets to make us competitive again. In that sense, keeping Rakell keeps that option open. Would be tough to pull off with any further attrition of top 6/top 4 talent. All a matter of seeing what/who shakes loose this offseason. |

By far. Like Tojo said yesterday, they might miss their window. Hard to believe they made that trade without knowing Rantanen would sign.

Carolina is a pretty sad story. That team had the foundation set for damn near a decade but were always missing a goal scoring punch and just could never figure out how to acquire it. |

That's pretty insane... Especially after being at that Cap for the last, what? 20 years? This could be a really fun off-season. |

Imagine they go hard after Marner to speed things up. Rantannen just set what the price should be. |

Yep! I didn't really see it until today. I mean, up until today no one would have imagined Beau or Glass getting anywhere near that. Not to mention being forced to move Schenn may work out amazingly. |

This would be one of the best moves for a retool. Fits long and short term. He's one of the only wingers that I feel would be worth the money he's going to ask for. |

Carolina definitely took big steps backwards they lost necas, drury, a 2nd round pick and Rantanen. All they gained was Stankoven who is a developing player and 2 -late first round picks. |

Even if they overpay by $1-2M, cap goes up enough to offset it and it’s a risk they have to take for any chance being competitive before Crosby hangs them up. |
