Apparently we were correct. Carolina tried to make a huge push for Rakell. Dubas didn't budge. I do wonder if maybe it is something they look into this offseason. Maybe that package of Karlsson and Rakell to Carolina may be something to watch for with their cap space and bombing it this TDL.
Edit: They also offered him a 14 million per year deal and he signs for less in Dallas...
Does make me think players don't find Carolina as an attractive destination. |

Man Carolina went from advancing and going for it to retreating in the span of a few weeks. Disappointing for them they couldnt figure out a deal.
I wonder what the price Dubas wanted and what Carolina offered. |

As I stated earlier. If that Carolina/Dallas trade happened earlier. I 100% believe Rakell would have been traded elsewhere at this deadline. There just wasn't enough time to negotiate the deal. |

This TDL is a win regardless of Rakell. Trading 3 bottom of the roster players with no long term future here for two 2s, a 3, and a 4 is a W in my book. |

I really wonder if keeping Rak and Gryz has something to do with deference to Sid and some of the other vets with Sid getting his PPG record. Gryz has been good on the PP too. Don't know if they need more of what Gryz would have brought. Seems weird they couldn't find buyers for those guys unless they were demanding over the top returns. |

+ Keeping Rak really gives Sid a chance to break the record |

You can defend keeping Rakell. Keeping Gryz is completely pointless. |

Not sure. I think we wanted some young players and prospects over picks for Rakell. |

I'm disappointed they didn't do more in this market with Rackell and Gryz. Happy what they did with the guys they moved. Missed opportunity overall. The Pens futures assets still aren't that deep. |

Still a lot of backlogged trades (I assume still a few last second discussions off the record being had) so who knows?
Just like the Conor Timmins deal which was just announced unofficially.
If they do stay. I know we were very high on both of them. Let me rephrase. Sullivan was very high on both of them.

Grinder may have found his new favorite player to pair with Imama in Dewar. Guy hits and fights even though he is small. He uses his speed and lower body strength to generate some huge big hits. He is a 3rd/4th line high energy guy. |

Not trading Gryz when we got Timmins is a bit of a head scratcher |

I guess we were part of the Carlo deal and we took Timmons and Dewar for cap reasons. There are a few reports saying there was retention on Carlo. So I wonder if that was us since Timmons should be worth more than a late round pick if Schenn landed us a 2nd. |

Similar styles, but I think Timmons is to fill the hole they created at 3 RD by trading Des and Schenn. He had a lot of promise once before concussions, so I like taking a shot on him as a reclamation. |

Im ok with keeping Rak, but I really felt like we should have moved Gryz. There’s almost no excuse for it at all. |

Kind of bummed about Schenn. Be cool to have a guy on the team that my working class strength alone wouldn’t beat the poop out of. |

I have to believe Carolina probably tried their best to acquire Rakell if not they honestly are the biggest losers of the deadline.
I do think we missed out on selling high on Grz which is a bummer. Karlsson hopefully goes for a solid return this offseason. I also hope we set up a solid Rakell deal this offseason. - 123Kid
Keep repeating the same thing no one wants him at 10M cap hit for 2 yrs. Retain 5M someone may take him off your hands for a 2nd or 3rd rd pick. The guy is a defensive liability. His strength being PP driver he has 1PP goal. PS great value on the Beuv deal. |

The thing that gets to me is if you wanted to keep Rackell because you want to be competitive next year, why not extend Pettersson as well instead of opening up a hole in your top 4? Feels like too much back and forth instead of picking a direction. |

Shocked Rak is still a pen after what the market was
Who are these guys from TOR? Dewar has 31 games played and 0 goals? |

Maybe nobody wanted him. We have no idea. You have to think Dubas would have moved him if he were offered something worthwhile.

Yeah I kinda feel the same way about Grz. We all know we could have gotten a pretty good return for him. I guess we are trying to be "competitive". |
