With Rantanen signed, this free agent market isn’t too hot. Marner and then nothing much after. Dubas could have more suitors when teams have a chance to assess the cap and have time to make room.
Maybe Dubas plans to resign Gryz and knows Karlsson is moving in the offseason |

The thing that gets to me is if you wanted to keep Rackell because you want to be competitive next year, why not extend Pettersson as well instead of opening up a hole in your top 4? Feels like too much back and forth instead of picking a direction. - Tojo.
Or the return had a poor contract attached to it that would hinder their expected turnaround time.

With all our draft picks it could be an aggressive offseason.
Also Timmons and Dewar potentially will be in the line up tonight. They were in Colorado when the trade took place at 3pm. |

Shocked Rak is still a pen after what the market was
Who are these guys from TOR? Dewar has 31 games played and 0 goals? - sammy87
They are fill ins for the NHL roster so he doesn't have to break the WBS Pens up while they fight for a 1st round bye.

My exact thoughts. Rak is signed at a good rate. Probably only had a couple of teams pursuing him. If he didn't get a good offer he might as well wait until more teams are buying.

Let's hope for an aggressive offseason. I definitely hope we bring in Marner. |

Maybe nobody wanted him. We have no idea. You have to think Dubas would have moved him if he were offered something worthwhile. - madmike71
I can 100% confirm and say this isn’t the case. |

Salary retention on Carlo to TOR.
The 1st was from TOR to BOS for Carlo.

I guess the Glass deal was Gruden and Glass for a 3rd Stillman (#9 ranked prospect) and Graham (#22 ranked prospect) from NJ. |

I wonder if we are/were looking for first round picks in next year's draft so we can try to be like STL and make some offers to some RFAs this offseason. If we play it right we can have a good draft. Be aggressive in FA. Steal a top young RFA. Make some solid offseason trades, and still have draft picks for each round. |

Isn't Grz our #1 D-man on the power play? I would say that's why we kept him.

Guentzel was our best winger, Pettersson was our best dman…. Wins aren’t exactly important for the rest of this season I’d say. Might actually be the opposite. |

If we re-sign gryz.. I won’t absolute hate it even though it doesn’t make sense lol. |

I don't buy either of those. While most of us can't know for certain, considering the rates this deadline, I believe an acceptable deal could be had. They traded away two core guys in their late 20s, can't get behind drawing the line at a guy in his 30s.
Hopefully Dubas proves me wrong and builds a better team this year than I expect is possible. Or fails miserably and gets another high pick. But my gut feel is we'll continue to miss the playoffs and fail to meaningfully rebuild. |

Since we didn't trade him, I'd have no issues bringing him back. They need 2 top 4 LD next year. But not sure why he wasn't flipped when that's what this whole year was about. |

With how close the playoffs races have been the past few years. I think with an aggressive offseason we can definitely make the playoffs and maybe get this team a little motivated.
I do hope we make a run at Marner and others this offseason. A few hits in this draft will also help. It could build us up for a solid future. As I said once before maybe we trade up to the 1st spot pending how close we are. Or we trade up from the Rangers spot to get 2 players in the top 10 of this draft which could definitely help. Schaefer or Misa could definitely help us sooner. Then maybe pull a Debrincat type trade that Ottawa did with Chicago and land a stud young talent with some of the picks we acquired. |

I can't think of any other reason why we would keep Grz.
Unless his trade offers were so low we may be able resign him cheap. |
