If they needed to hit the cap floor the Isles have some players they could have for free.

What a cup series. These are the best two teams in the league. So much resilience in both teams. The confidence is something the isles have lacked, hence the blown leads. I hope they can model themselves after these two organizations.

"Darche has communicated with both star players that they're staying put. That's going to be disappointing for teams who were hoping to make offers on either." (H/t @PierreVLeBrun)

#Isles Mathew Barzal & Bo Horvat Not Going Anywhere @TheHockeyNews

Only mentioning Bo and Barzal is interesting. Does that mean others are available? For example, I noticed he didn’t name the captain Anders Lee as staying put. That stood out to me…..he’s “the captain”

Also of the players and former players mentioned to be at the draft party Anders Lee was not one of them.

What’s interesting is Dobson not being mentioned.

Yeah I guess you can make an argument for Dobson not being mentioned, although it makes sense to keep him for a pair with Schaefer to FINALLY produce a top pair. Also, I believe somewhere I read a hockey analyst having Bo, Barzal, Dobson, and Sorokin being the core. Maybe no one goes. I just thought it was interesting that the captain was never mentioned as a definite and he’s not at the draft party. Maybe he’s gonna be at the draft table, to welcome the pick. That makes sense to me, but if he’s not there he’s prob being shopped. After all Darche wants a faster team.

I think if they can get a good return for Lee they may move him but I don’t know if he has a no movement or trade clause in his contract.
As far as faster team. I think the core you mentioned will stay and is the future core. Bo will be the next captain imho.
Nothing moves faster than the puck. Quick puck movement is key
Unless of course you are McJesus.

I think it behooves the isles in this scenario to trade Lee, but they may feel otherwise as he quietly puts up pts. I just feel he’s an asset they could use to get younger and faster. I also agree that Bo gets the C.

Unless the Islanders are tanking before the season even starts, I would hold off trading Lee. I think he could get a nice return just before the trade deadline, if the Isles are out of the playoff picture. But he's a warrior in front of the crease and along the boards, and most guys can't do what he does. So he has plenty of value to the Isles as well as to a contending team, if they decide to move him.

I'm fine with holding off trading Lee and JGP for now. They both need to go at the deadline though unless the Islanders are looking like legit Cup contenders by the deadline.

Fair point. Def agree that his greatest value is at the deadline. But, Darche doesn’t strike me as the kinda GM to wait to fail. I think he’s going to makes some additions and subtractions before the season starts. Obviously I’m guessing but I just found it odd that the islander captain isn’t being a guaranteed stay.

Three teams have inquired about #Isles Jean-Gabriel Pageau over the last week. There were a few teams that came calling around the trade deadline.

Interesting. I guess they have Callum Ritchie coming up to take a center spot. I feel like Darche is gonna sign a UFA or 2

Like before, I won't pretend to know much about Ryan Bowness but his name has been talked about as one of those up-and-coming asst GM's that is in line for a GM job somewhere down the line. I think this is a good hire.

#Isles announce that they have hired Ryan Bowness as Assistant General Manager & Director of Player Personnel.

He was previously the AGM for Ottawa and the GM of Bellville, their AHL affiliate.

Bowness was a scout with the Penguins (2016-2022) and was a member of the 2017 Stanley Cup championship team.

This might be Chris Lamoriello's replacement eventually

Yes, and he’s known for scouting, and drafting which are obvious needs. But, he’s not the GM of Bport and as of now Chris Lam still is. I wonder if that’s a function of the extension….my guess is yes.

Well here's an answer on that apparently:

Ryan Bowness's job with #Isles does not include being the GM of Bridgeport.

That job still belongs to Chirs Lamoriello.

Yeah interesting that all coaches are being replaced in Bport but Chris Lam stays on as GM. In truth it’s not the worst thing ever if he’s being watched and told what to do. It’s not horrific if he’s just a desk GM doing the paperwork. I don’t see any other way he stays on, without that extension.
