Yeah interesting that all coaches are being replaced in Bport but Chris Lam stays on as GM. In truth it’s not the worst thing ever if he’s being watched and told what to do. It’s not horrific if he’s just a desk GM doing the paperwork. I don’t see any other way he stays on, without that extension. - kindlyrick
Maybe Darche just tries to give him more resources and will give him a chance to turn it around. Who knows. |

The Tax Court has indefinitely paused proceedings in John Tavares’ appeal after ordering the CRA to disclose key audit documentation, including files from the lead auditor, internal communications, and any records on how similar signing bonuses for other U.S. NHL players were handled
This was deemed necessary to assess whether the CRA acted fairly and in line with past precedent, before the court can move forward
Interesting. It’s gotta be a major issue that’s being squashed because this could have really screwed Canadian sports. Somehow it went away. Lol |

Most recent Pronman mock draft on the Athletic has Hagens falling all the way to 8. If he does fall past 5 I wonder if they don't make a serious concerted effort to trade back up and take the kid |

I truly think they select Schaefer AND trade back and bring the local kid home. It would be a phenomenal story and Darche said he was big on community. I think it makes sense hockey wise, but it’s also great press and fantastic marketing. |

I assume Darche will speak to most teams in the top 10 to gauge what it'd cost the Isles to move up to each spot. Moving up to three or four (Seravalli suggested that CHI and Utah may be willing to trade their picks) would cost considerably more than moving up to, say, 7 or 8. If Hagens falls past 6 I think the chances of them trading up increases a lot. I'm not sure they're going to want to part with the assets that they'd have to in order to get to 3 or 4. Maybe they come out of left field and flip Dobson and something to get to #2 (no I don't think that will, or should, happen ) |

Ken Morrow, who has served as #Isles Director of Pro Scouting since 1992, will remain with the team in the pro scouting department.
Ryan Bowness will run the pro scouting staff.
I didn't catch this tweet earlier, but this kind of reads like Morrow may have been demoted in some capacity. Doesn't appear to be in title, but Bowness may now be his superior whereas he didn't have one prior to that hiring. |

Makes sense for sure. There’s been talk of Pageau being asked about. The isles have the assets to get something done. I don’t think entertaining Dobson in trade for a shot at Hagens is the move (I know you didn’t say that it was). But I do think paying up a little to land a hometown kid is worth it.
Also that Issac Howard story is interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised seeing him end up on the island…with his ties to Tampa and Darche. If they play their cards right they could end up with 5 or 6 blue chip prospects. That’s pretty exciting….been a while. Ha

Apparently Lou had been offered 1st round picks for Pageau in the past and turned that down, which is...something.
I'm honestly curious what Howard's relationship with Darche could be. By all accounts he has some sort of issue with Tampa and who knows if Darche gets lumped in with that or not. Not implying I think it's one side or the other, but it's something that dawned on me recently. |

Wow I didn’t hear that about Pageau. His faceoff percentage is very appealing to some teams. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of him, but I get his value.
I thought I read that Howard’s issue was his starting in the minors. Not sure if that’s true or not, but it makes sense why he wouldn’t sign with a powerhouse team where the spots are limited. The connection to Darche is intriguing….id be very happy if they could land that young talent.

I'm not really sure it's the case. Also he's the director of pro scouting, so he really doesn't have anything to do with drafting/development. I just thought that was an interesting tweet. |

Yeah I had a back on forth with someone about Kenny Morrow being director of pro scouting and not amateur scouting. When I typed in chat GPT it said “Ken Morrow absolutely participates in conversations at the draft table and offers insight based on his decades of NHL experience. But when it comes to selecting amateur prospects, his role is consultative, not authoritative.”. I think Kenny was part of the draft discussion like most pro sports draft table. Regarding his pro scouting, the isles haven’t brought in a Norris, Vezina or Hart winner in his tenure I don’t believe. I’m not knocking Ken Morrow, I just know it wasn’t working.

Maybe they consult with him a bit, but they have an entire amateur scouting department for a reason. I have much larger issues with Klatt and Cairns and the jobs they've done as Director of Amateur Scouting and Director of Player Development than I do with Ken Morrow. |

Yes — during the 2025 trade deadline, the Edmonton Oilers reportedly offered a first-round draft pick to acquire Jean‑Gabriel Pageau, and they sweetened the deal by proposing that the Islanders retain half of Pageau’s salary. However, Lou Lamoriello ultimately declined the offer and opted to keep Pageau in New York |

According to reports, Pageau could have been playing for the Stanley Cup this spring. Lamoriello denied a trade that would have sent him to Edmonton for a first-round pick. He did not want to retain half of his salary for the remainder of the contract, which Edmonton needed to fit under the cap. Darche could retain half of Pageau’s salary to get a better pick, if that is his priority. |

I’m still shaking my head over Lou not wanting to retain half of Pageau’s salary for the first. Not for nothing but had they played their cards right, they could have accumulated enough draft capital to have the option to offer sheet an elite player.
So now they have both Edmonton and Boston who inquired about Pageau. I think his days as an islander are numbered. This years draft could have some fireworks. |

If that's the case it's pretty bad if it came down to not wanting to retain for the remainder of this season and $2.5M next season. Actual cash would have been much less too.
I assume he would have been operating under the assumption he'd be looking to re-sign Nelson and Palmieri, among the other RFA deals that needed to get done, so he needed all the cap space he could get. Still really bad, if it's all true |

Alexander Romanov is drawing interest from the Bruins and Flyers, with both clubs exploring trade options ahead of the #NHLDraft. Could he be on the move? Full update here ⤵️
Maybe Romanov is in play instead of Dobson. |
