I’m not really understanding how Larry Brooks can report that the Rangers have interest in Vladislav Gavrikov and then voila it’s not even an hour into free agency and they sign him. There’s an obvious problem with tampering, but it’s a slippery slope I guess. If any team went after the Rangers player and poached them Larry Brooks would have an article written the next day about tampering. |

Plus a second and a player. Are they seeing something the rest of us aren't? - PeteM
And Scott Morrow is a very good prospect.
Rangers fleeced them, although in fairness I'd say that I have somewhat high competence that Carolina can turn Miller into a solid NHL'er. He's got the toolset, he just needs to be better defensively. |

Re-reading my post and seeing that I said "...somewhat high competence" is a very ironic typo |

With the first overall pick in the 2025 #CHLImportDraft, the @Kelowna_Rockets have selected 🇨🇿 forward and @NYIslanders prospect Tomas Poletin!
This was interesting to see. Isles 4th round pick was the 1st player selected in the CHL import draft and now Kelowna holds his rights. Don't know a ton about him obviously, but that's gotta be good news for the Isles that he was taken before any other non-North American player. |

The isles picks have been praised by most of the hockey world. Super exciting. If they decide to launch at the deadline they could pile up first round picks in an apparent deep draft. |

Interesting. He's 34 yr old with a cap hit of $4 MM. He's in the last season of his contract, but he has a 16-team no trade list.

He might be worth a shot for one season. |

We beat the Rangers on a player. When is the last offseason we have made this many moves?

ISLANDERS SIGN SHABANOV
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (July 2, 2025) – The New York Islanders have signed forward Maxim Shabanov to a one-year, entry-level contract.
Shabanov, 24, averaged over a point-per-game with 67 (23 goals and 44 assists) in 65 games last season with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He set career highs in points, assists and plus-minus rating (+17). The Chelyabinsk, Russia, native added 20 points (10 goals and 10 assists) in 21 playoff games, as Traktor advanced to the Gagarin Cup Final. He led the KHL in playoff goals and plus-minus rating (+14).
In 207 career regular season games over parts of four seasons with Chelyabinsk, Shabanov has scored 150 points (67 goals and 83 assists). He’s added 31 points (13 goals and 18 assists) in 36 KHL playoff games.
On the international stage, Shabanov represented his country at the 2017 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2016 U17 World Hockey Challenge, where he won bronze.

I guess Engvall is the odd man out?
Typically I’m not jazzed about a small skilled Russian, but this kid immediately improves the shootouts which like it or not is an important pts getter. He’s also a PP addition which Darche has done a great job thus far overhauling. |

I hope Engvall is out. It's a very low risk signing. Darche is making the right type of moves for the Islanders.

Absolutely. All of his signings are basically low risk…regarding term. I think he’s getting them to the point of playoffs, but he’s setting them up to really be a contender in 3-5 years.
The PP was garbage juice for decades and in a few days he’s immediately improved it with 3 signings that cost nothing but cash to acquire.
As I mentioned the shootouts were brutal with a few maybes, and now they have 2 highly skilled guys added. That’s important for pts |

I hate the SO, but it's important to be able to get points. Islanders need to do buying time for the prospect type signings.

Obviously just a goofy prospects scrimmage, but if Prokhorov can develop well he is going to be an absolute menace on the wing. He looked incredible last night.

He's got a Panarin-y type of skillset. I'm not sold he'll be the same player at this level that Panarin is, but if he's a good top-9 forward it's a solid add. If he's better than that it's a massive pickup. |

If the Islanders can find cheaper and useful bottom 6 types, it frees up more money for the top 6.

He didn't look like a bottom-six player to me last night. Obviously massive grain of salt given it was a dev camp scrimmage but his assist on Finley's goal was very impressive. |
