As you said his job is to make the islanders cup competitive. The islanders have digressed in years 5,6 and 7. It’s the GMs job to address needs and yet the isles remain a bubble team with one of the worst special teams in the league. I don’t profess to know what deals were offered or not. I only speak facts. PP went 0-24 in last years playoffs and yet the coaching remained the same with MacLean.
Instead of capitalizing on the sellers market Lou held assets rather than re tool the stale roster. IMHO that was the wrong move. You don’t ride your car into the junk yard, you flip it to get something newer.

Yes Horvat was an excellent trade. Yes bringing in Trotz was an excellent hire. But as the old saying goes “what have you done for me lately”. With the prospect talent rising, why wouldn’t you add assets to build around the next generation who appear to be high end talent?

I do not care if the GM is Lou or Joe Smith. I just want the Islander to have a legit chance at the Cup. I do not want to hear about taxes or the Rangers. If the Islanders cannot sign quality UFA's, they need to draft and develop well and make smart signings and trades. The 4 cups were great and the two ECF's were nice, but that's in the past now like Maloney and Milbury and Garth. Those GM's had challenges Lou does not have with the current owners.

I don’t think Lou has done a poor job to be clear. Overall he’s made better decisions for this team. But the team he’s put forth is below average. He has to take accountability for that. I just don’t see why he didn’t load up assets at the deadline to re structure a stale roster. It’s the obvious move and there’s really no argument against it ESPECIALLY seeing what the return was for Brock Nelson.

That is just part of the reason they need to draft some young talent but YES.

It’s better to take a chance on a UFA on a one or two year deal than resigning players to bad contracts. It’s about buying time for better prospects to become NHL ready. The Islanders have to go with what made them a success.

Lou brought some respect back to the team. His hiring also sent a message to the fans that the days of Snow were over. That was great. However, it's time for a new leader and vision.

It's just business. People get let go all the time for all kinds of reasons. You have to produce. To me being a bubble team isn't producing. The worst thing in sports is to be stuck in limbo, and that's where the Islanders are right now.

The last few years coupled with this last trade deadline are why I think he should hang em up. I was referring to Lou’s overall performance I.E. not being as bad as Snow. Trotz and a few good trades got the ball rolling. But the last few years have been stagnant and he’s not really done anything about it.

Not the kind of start the Islanders wanted.

Snow was fired because you couldn’t gas light the fans 12 years in a 5 year rebuild with zero success. The billboard was the nail in the coffin.

Snow should have been fired 6 years earlier. He sucked!

I think Lou has done a very good job this year with the injuries and bringing in players for free to carry positions. Also getting Tsypy and DuClair were good pick ups. Also I think the assets he gained with the Nelson trade are solid.
He may give the GM job to someone else in the off season in my opinion.
Wonder who you would like as the next GM?
