Yep another year of signing declining players till they are 40. We are getting younger though don’t worry about it. |

If Lou wants younger players ready for the NHL for Lee and JGP like he got for Nelson, it may not happen. I have no idea why Lou is not a fan of draft picks? Brodeur and Niedermeyer were not FA or trade pickups.

The only team he was successful in getting to a cup was built with draft picks. Since then he has been unable to build a team through trades or resigning over the hill players that were true contenders. Not sure where the disconnect is. There’s nothing wrong with vet players to help develop your young players, it’s necessary. Not sure if resigning a player till they are almost 40 across the board is the right way either. Doesn’t seem to be working. But hey let’s keep on doing it expecting a different result. |

No idea why he would go against what worked for him. Some teams like the Islanders need to build through the draft and make smart signings and trades. The Islander teams that got to the two ECF were mostly draft picks and with a great coach. Lou did not make big changes to the roster.

Between Sorokin, Barzal, horvat, Romanov, there’s some good pieces in place. Have a hard time equating Palmieri to being part of the core. |

I agree. Can Bo not provide the vet leadership and Pelech for the defense?

His comments don't make any sense. He claims he wants to get younger, and had "several" players that could have been moved to achieve this. Yet he tried to resign Nelson and failed, and kept Palmieri, who is still not signed. |

I would think Horvat is the next in line for the captaincy unless Lou resigns Lee which we all know is a real possibility. If our defense continues the way it is(which why wouldn’t it we are going on three years of terrible) it doesn’t really matter. |

My sense is that neither Lou nor Malkin are willing to sacrifice a season or two for a serious retool. Lou for personal reasons. Malkin for business reasons. |

I don’t understand the logic. Attendance was down last year. That will continue if they have an at best mediocre team which is what this team is shooting for. There’s no quick fixes in this league. The one thing Lou does have going for him is the raise in the cap. IF he somehow can suddenly convince FA’s to come here and makes a couple of great trades he has a chance at a bubble team. But still the defense…
Problem is that seems to be a reach for this team. |

This is probably true John, but it does not make sense. The Islanders will never do a re-tool, and the next GM will be forced not to re-tool?

Maybe his return wasn’t worth trading. I’m ok with him finishing the season on the Islanders. - maximumcarnage
Lou's job is to better the team. Keeping Palms in lieu of trading him to add assets is a mistake. The contract he will sign is not going to put the isles over the top for now or later. JMO

Yeah, I don't agree with it, but based on everything I've read, that's where I think these two guys are at. If it were up to me, they would have accelerated their retool by trading Palms, even if they only got draft picks in return. I get that Lou doesn't value draft picks, but, if you get enough of them, you increase your chances of finding a gem. Wahlstrom may have turned out to be a bust, but I still have hopes for Dobson.
Hopefully, the Islanders under Lou will be better at recognizing talent than the Islanders under Snow. It's still amazing to me that Snow had control over guys like Spurgeon and Verhaeghe, and let them go for nothing or peanuts.
Regarding Malkin, I can only guess that he is worried that a team that totally sucks for a couple of seasons, will result in even lower attendance than he's getting now. So while I would put up with that for the long-term benefits that might accrue, I also don't have to pay the bills. |

The Isles are so close to a cup right now. Lou clearly has a vision.
Do we really have to rent another billboard? |

I really thought Dobson if anyone would have brought us a top six forward in return. Maybe my homer glasses were blinding me. After watching him last night, they were probably only offered a 2nd and later picks. The guy is completely lost and makes mistake after mistake. |
