Was that your guy, Neil Smith, who signed him? Decent signing, as Witt was pretty good his first 2 or 3 years on the Island. Eventually, they had to buy him out, but that was far down the road... - JohnScammo
Who else Johnny. The guy that learnt from Al and Bill and the guy that knew how to close even with the lousy Coli. |

Bridgeport's home schedule has been completed, and the numbers are rather historic.
They finished 4-28-1-3 (.167) for the fewest home wins in AHL history.
They had a minus-70 goal differential (146-76). Their home schedule ended with a seven-game losing streak.
PATRICK WILLIAMS
@pwilliamsAHL
The 1987-88 Baltimore Skipjacks had been the previous owner for the fewest home wins in a season at 8-27-5 (.263).
However, that was an unaffiliated team.

Wow that’s actually impressively bad. I remember when snow tried to make Bridgeport relevant by adding a bunch of grit to at least field respectability. I can’t say I’m shocked that both the islanders and their farm are bottom of the basement teams.
There was an article by Ethan Sears in the post whereby he had some stat about the isles having the least amount of success with 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks playing in the league. I guess that lends itself to Bridgeport being where they are. |

It's funny, because after adding Ritchie and Eiserman into the fold and having 3 1st rounders over the next two drafts I actually feel that they can turn the roster around relatively quickly. But I think where the rebuild is needed is organizationally because they are stale and the results aren't coming. Poor drafting, poor asset management, and poor cap management are killing this team. Need a functional AHL org to develop the non-banner prospects and lots of changes in the front office/hockey ops. |

This is what happens when you have a tired and lazy GM that does not fix problems.

That’s actually a great point and well said. The rebuild needs to be within the organizational staff.

I said it the other day, but this season will prove to fans whether ownership cares about the actual on-ice product or if UBS is just a real estate/retail investment for them.
If they just keep everything status quo, we'll know it's the latter. |

Isles attendance at UBS has gone down every year with this past year being the lowest average obviously. - kindlyrick
No excuse for the owners not to make changes.

Sadly I think it’s all about the real estate. I deleted my post and am putting it here. The attendance at UBS has declined yearly from 17,085, 16,711, 16,558, 15,979. That’s what should get the owners attention. Once ownership started to sell off a portion of their interest, that was a tell tale sign.
“In December 2023, New York Islanders co-owner Scott Malkin was reported to be nearing the sale of a 10% stake in the team at a valuation of $1.75 billion.” (Which I think became 20%) That’s roughly 350 million back to them for buying the isles from wang for 485 million. They’re basically playing on the houses money |

I assume they had some debt to pay off from building the arena, but who knows. It will be a very interesting offseason to follow...that's for sure. |

They mention Patrick and the coach being accountable. A coach that cannot pick his lineup's or his assistants. No mention of the GM being accountable.

I don't think Roy is above criticism. I don't really think he was given the best roster to work with so I don't put all the blame on him, but I don't think it's unfair at all to pin some of this mess on him. |

This is fair, but to not even mention the GM is weak. The special teams have been a problem for years though. I feel for Patrick because if he gets fired by the Islanders, he may really get a bad rep.

Here’s the thing with that and why it’s also on Lou. The isles got bounced in the first round last year with a 0-21 PP and the year before that wasn’t much better. Why was the same group brought back without really honing in on special teams and addressing the elephant in the room.
As for Roy, I was excited when they brought him in, and I’ve since changed my tune. I think it’s unprofessional to call out players in the media. Sure we like it as fans, but it’s a testament to a lack of self control. As we say it starts from the top and if you don’t give respect you can’t demand it. Keep those things in the room I say.
So Duclair just got to leave the team without any repercussions? That’s weird. |

They def took on debt to build the arena, but at that level they’re getting better lending terms than anyone of us. They bought the team for just south of 500 million and it’s valued at 1.7 billion now. Pretty amazing trade. |

Maybe Patrick should have handled behind closed doors, but maybe he did and did not get results. Duclair bouncing from team to team gets very little benefit of the doubt. I think Patrick is beyond frustrated at this point right or wrong. I'm fine with both Lou and Patrick going at this point.

Back in the day when the Islanders had a GM that could sign quality UFA's.

Makes it even worse he was able to do it in 40 days in a lousy building with a team not coming off the ECF. |

I hope they put Matt Martin on the power play. It would be nice to see him score a goal in what is undoubtedly his last NHL game. |
