The 1989 draft pick might have been their all-time worst. #2 overall was David Chysowski who never amounted to anything. I think it might have been Bill Torrey's first draft without the benefit of Jimmy Devellano.......who had been lured away by Detroit........and yes, probably deserves credit for finding Zetterberg in the 6th (?) round a decade later. - JohnScammo
Exactly John! Islanders never really recovered from the Jimmy D loss.

Islander drafts have not been the same since the dynasty days ended. - ses111
They drafted Palffy in 1991. They hired Kenny Morrow in 1992 as director of pro scouting. Hate to bash an islander great, but maybe he’s the problem. Or one of.. |

Islanders had some hits and mostly misses. We can talk Garth, Milbury, and Maloney, but ownership has been the biggest issue. Those GM's were not lousy on their own and Milbury and Maloney had to get rid of players over money.

Very true….great point. I do however think this ownership is different. The difference being they are the only owners to be able to build a new arena. Because of that, their hides are on the line. I have to imagine season ticket sales are abysmal for the upcoming season.

We will find out about these owners with the hires they make. They need to hire people that can build through the draft and make smart trades and signings.

I don’t think they’re phucking around anymore. They canned a HOFer (re : didn’t renew him). They got their new arena and the team has the chance to become worth double what it is now, with a winning group, which leads to bigger deals with all things UBS.
Wang on the other hand kept Snow for 12 years. 7 years later Snowy is jobless. Go figure. |

Bless Wang's soul, but he had to give DP 15 years instead of listening to the GM at the time who wanted to give him 5 years. The mistakes over the years are staggering. |

I think the fact that they have a former NHL employee with league wide experience leading the search is a positive. I think I read somewhere that Collin’s and Lou had a mid season rift? Now, not re newing Lou tells me that they are putting winning as a priority. That’s the difference between this ownership and the prior. I’m excited for the isles next chapter as I believe it will be different than the status quo of years past. |

Dave Chysowksi…..lol forgot about him. I can forgive the franchise for a bust, but the isles are rife with em. Too many to name.
Good memory with the Jimmy Devellano mention. - kindlyrick
I had to look it up. Zetterberg was a 7th round pick (!), not a 6th round pick. How did Mike Milbury not grab him in the 6th round??? |

I think moving on from Lou is a big positive. Now we need to see the next steps.

christ, I didn't realize he has been around that long. Yeah, time to break up the alumni fraternity and prioritizing success over catering to everyone's nostalgia. |

I think the fans rather have winning. I doubt fans will have a revolt if Kenny was replaced. Then again, fans are losing it over radio broadcast.

The complaining of the radio firing is by people who’ve never had a business or don’t understand business. It’s strictly a business move. The owners are allowed to monetize their product. Leaving Hofstra radio is a positive for future plans. They’re not ok with mediocrity. Did Suffolk county even get that Hofstra broadcast??? |

Yes we got it on 103.9. I believe there was a third station that played them for further out east as well, but not 100% sure about that.
By all accounts King and Picker were good guys and I do feel bad for them and wish it didn't happen. But anyone who thinks the team axing them is some sort of travesty and a terrible idea needs to get in touch with reality. |

Another fun fact:
In series clinching games, the Leafs are 0-30 on the PP. |

I loved them personally. To me, it reminded me of the Coliseum isles. They were self made, and started from the bottom, the opposite of mainstream. But these new owners are players and the isles aren’t neighboring Hofstra anymore. I’d bet they will be able to sell the rights to broadcast say to an ESPN, or somehow capitalize/monetize on this decision. Who knows maybe they create their own network like YES 🤷♂️ |

When it comes to current scout staff... the New GM needs to clean house.
