Here are several names mentioned.
Staple: A list of 16 candidates who could fit what the Islanders are looking for: Pat Brisson, Marc Bergevin, Jeff Gorton, Jarmo Kekalainen, George McPhee, Doug Armstrong, Brendan Shanahan, Ken Holland, Ron Francis, Kevin Weekes, Wayne Gretzky, Neil Smith, Don Sweeney, Mathieu Darche, Brandon Pridham, Jason Spezza and Vukie Mpofu.

Servalli: Ten potential GM candidates for the Islanders: Ken Holland, Marc Bergevin, Peter Chiarelli, Jarmo Kekalainen, Doug Wilson, Mathieu Darche, Evan Gold, Ryan Martin, Kevin McDonald and Brandon Pridham.

Mark Yannetti – Currently the Director of Scouting & Amateur Scouting for the Los Angeles Kings (2007-Present). Yannetti was formerly the Pro & Amateur Scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2000-2007

Andrew Gross reported that Devils Assistant GM Kate Madigan will interview for the job as well. Let’s be honest, are McPhee, Armstrong, Gorton, and Shanahan really leaving their current positions? Similar to Francis in Seattle, who was just promoted to Team President.

The off the radar group

Mike Futa – Former Assistant General Manager of the Los Angeles Kings (2017-2020), Director of Amateur Scouting (2007-2014) and Director of Player Personnel (2014-2017)

Ross Mahoney – Assistant General Manager, Washington Capitals (2014-Present) and Director of Amateur Scouting (2000-2014)

Martin Madden – Currently Assistant General Manager of the Anaheim Ducks (2020-Present) and Director of Amateur Scouting (2008-2020)

I thought the AVS had a really good shot. I think the AVS thought they would be getting out of Nelly than what he provided. IT will be interesting if they sign him or he goes to free agency.

Rantanen….what a beast. Against his former team no less!
Nelson will prob stay in Colorado. They have a legit roster who is in the cup discussion every year.

Senators captain Brady Tkachuk dismissed speculation that he wants out of Ottawa. Speaking with the media on Saturday, Tkachuk called the rumor an obvious lie, maintaining his commitment to helping the Senators become a winning team.

The Islanders need to be like Don Corleone and make the Senators an offer they cannot refuse.

I am sure he will want to stay there. The question becomes do the AVS want to resign him?

So, regarding tomorrows draft lottery. The Islanders are looking at three possible outcomes.

1. Stay at 10.
2. Dropping as far as 12.
3. Grabbing the #1 spot.

In a perfect world isles grab #1, but the hockey gods are always tough on us. So, I am expecting #12.

I would not offer Nelson a big deal after his latest flop. You have to wonder if the Avs regret the trade.

Nelson isn’t a big game player…..he’s the guy who quietly gets the pts which you need to get to the post season. Hes the perfect example of, “one of the isles best forwards”, but mid on a cup contender.

I’m hoping the isles can move up to a top 3 spot. It’s the least Bettman can do for cancelling the all star game at UBS.

I agree with you…..if he can be had, they need to get it done.

I’m thinking Bergevin may have the inside track to the GM job.
Roy and him both being French Canadians and
Bergevin probably keeps Roy. Don’t know if he’s my first choice.
That said I think they may hire a Pres of Hockey Ops.
Who will ultimately make the decision.
I’m glad the Owners are taking their time on this decision. Obviously
It’s time sensitive with the draft etc. but it’s a huge decision and they need
to get it right.

I would hire Darche if it were my decision.
But I would have a Pres of Hockey Ops with
a history above him.
Darche will get a GM job sooner rather than later.
One thing Bergevin has is 2 years of history
playing with the Islanders.
Just have a feeling Bergy is the front runner at this point.

If were are talking forwards...The Entire Forward Group of the Islanders is second line at best on a cup contending team. 95% are 3rd and 4th liners with some not making the top 12. Just the hard cold facts.

I like the idea of two different people for GM and president of hockey ops. A checks and balances if you will. I can’t believe Lou had that much autonomy. How does an 82 year old have final say regarding media with players?? What does he know about social media???

That’s right, and it’s been that way for far too long to make excuses. The isles need a marquee player or players and be able to market them.
After maybe Barzal what other jersey are people excited to buy and wear?

I think Bergy is the conservative selection. aka the safe selection. That does not mean he is a bad selection. But like most have said here, the organization needs an more modern GM. I could see Bergy as Pres with Darche as the GM.

Heck I could see Bery as the Pres, Roy as the GM and Benoit Desrosiers as the coach.

From what I’ve read, he’s a high octane forward who Tampa doesn’t really need right now? I think he’s opposed to beginning his career in the minors. If it’s a numbers game and he’s the odd man out, I’d absolutely look into acquiring him.

He's a Left Wing which the Islanders could use and seems to have talent. He's not very big at 5'10.

Lotta talent at 5 ft 10 these days. He’s a blue chip that the isles could use. I’m sure many teams are in on him.
