Listen I'd love to see him become an Islander, I really would. Just not with the first overall pick. I'd strongly consider moving some serious assets to trade back up and take him. - Gabe Athaus
Yeah I get it. Trading back and collecting some other assets is really the only scenario there’s any chance of that happening. I’d be fine with it bcs it very well may speed up the rebuild and I’d love to see James in a Islanders sweater but I doubt it happens. I see them going with Schaefer like everyone else. It’s the consensus right pick if we’re going with picking first overall. Whoever our manager is will more than likely go the safest route I’m sure. |

I don't even know what kind of assets we'd get for trading back a pick or two. Is it really worth it for a 2nd and 3rd round pick? I don't think it would be. If someone is really in love with Schaefer and wants to offer up some kind of blockbuster package I'd absolutely be interested, but short of that....no thanks.
I think Schaefer is the guy and if they can wheel and deal to get back in the top 5/10 then that's awesome. I'd put the Colorado pick in play and then, depending what pick it'd be for, make a call on what the other assets would be to include |

These kinds of drafts where there’s less disparity is where you sometimes see a lot of trades in the first round. Could see it happening. Not necessarily with us but with other teams. |

He will sign with the Isles as a UFA and like it.

On some #Isles items swirling around:
-- As of now Ken Holland is top choice
-- Contact made with MTL for permission to speak to Jeff Gorton
-- Marc Bergevin in the mix for #Isles/LAK jobs
-- Have not heard much on Kekäläinen/Chiarelli
-- This may all change in an hour |

I’m wondering why Ek would create a troll blog on the main page and not allow trolls, like myself, to comment on them. |

I think I could live with Holland as as president but not GM. Glad Chiarelli doesn't seem to be in the mix and I hope that part doesn't change ever in future
Very interested in Gorton |

Martone and Desnoyers are right there though. The book on Hagens is that he's a soft playmaker that stays on the perimeter. I really wouldn't be shocked if both of those players I mentioned are taken before him. - Gabe Athaus
Martone isn't a great skater id pass on him |

Gorton would be interesting. Holland would make sense as President. Does Holland have the rep he won those Cups based on others work? |

If we got chiarelli it clearly would be some kind of universe karma payback for Barzal. |

I like Barzal, but karma can take a hike with Chiarelli.

I don’t know how some team hires him again but I’m sure it’ll happen. Better not be us. |

Yep! Holland is not my favorite, but he seems to have some luck, and he would work as President.

Looking like theyre gonna hire a president first. I’m ok with Holland but I’d prefer Gorton |

My concern with Hagens is his size. He's basically the same size as Jack Hughes, and we all saw how he got knocked around during the 4 Nations tournament. I could be wrong, but don't think he's built for tight checking physical play. Isles need to build a playoff team. I think I'd take Shaefer...or Misa. - streaks
I don't know anything about any of the three potential number-one picks. Wasn't even on my radar as I never expected the Isles would have the pick and always figured they'd either just squeak into the playoff or just barely miss.
But, on the write-ups that Upstate posted earlier, wasn't Misa the one who seemed to be dealing with an injury in every third sentence? Someone who follows this stuff more closely could probably weigh in on if that's any kind of concern. |

I’d be ok with Gorton in either role. I’m not enamored with any of the other names mentioned for GM. There’s not any one person I’m like that’s the guy I want for the job outside of Gorton. |

I'd be fine with Darche with a vet President. I'm not sure if he is a contender though. I'm thinking he is not.

I was thinking more like Gorton for POHO and he hires Darche to be GM. Let them figure out the rest…..they’re both winners. |

Darche seems to be more of a hope on this thread than a realistic option which is what I’m referring too. I haven’t seen his name reported other than this thread. If he is sign me up |
