[quote=Nasty_Duck]If you can better your team you do it. Period.
It's not like Marchand was sent to the KHL. You make it sound like he's the only big-name player ever to be traded. Gretzky. Hasek. Pronger. Shananhan. The list goes on...
GET. OVER. IT.
You love that “get over it “phrase don’t you.
So they made their team better with the Marchand trade . 😂
Still waiting for your response about Chara or zboril his replacement. Guess that made the team better too. - johnnypie
I've used the phrase multiple times now because you are so dense it needed to be said... multiple times. Maybe 3rd-time is a charm?

Why?
That's not how you tank. This team is NOT winning the Cup, so might as well hope for a better draft pick.

Agreed. There is nothing better than playoff hockey. I still want it regardless. Sneak in and see what happens. |

Typical answer. You never back up your statements because you don’t know what you’re talking about. Come on give me another little phrase.
And your brilliant idea to tank because you’re NOT going to win the cup is a great strategy. Don’t try to make the playoffs because drafting 2 slots earlier is going to make you a better team .
Right ? |

That was sweet. Maybe if they did that in the playoffs instead of that don’t take a penalty strategy it would have been different. That’s the way you deal with Bennett . 👍 Zadorov. |

Could be 2 places as you say. Could be 4 or 6 or 8... who knows at this point.
But slipping into playoffs and having almost no chance to advance (they just traded 3 regulars - they did not get better this year) is not good for the team going forward. Bruins have avoided a proper rebuild for a long time now. It has caught up to them finally and it's time to face the music. It the life-cycle of teams in pro-sports.
As for Chara, I'll try to make it simple for you.
- Bruins decided he was too slow and would not have a role in top 6 - he could not keep up with speedy skaters on a full-time basis.
- Bruins needed to go with younger D-men who could skate with the opposition.
- At that time, they hoped Zorbril would fit that mould.
- That Zorbril did not work does not mean Bruins made wrong decision on Chara. They had to try something new with the younger players they had in the system.
- Bruins offered Chara a role he did not like, so he moved on. Happens all the time in hockey.
You can disagree, but I'd say you are in the minority there. It was time for a change. |

So... perpetual mediocrity. Awesome!
And to be clear - I'm not suggesting they throw a game. I'm just hoping for a losing streak (regardless of how hard they play) because they have no realistic chance of advancing in the playoffs.
Missing playoffs and getting better draft pick is >> one round of playoffs. |

See you deleted that idiot post with the D’uh
Of course 2 slots make a difference. Your boy zboril and senyshyn 13 and 15 . Barzal , Connor , konecny all later .
No making the playoffs and making good picks is better. Now you’re changing your tune on losing because it’s ridiculous. Pasta and C McAvoy were good picks . Better than some of the players picked before them.
And I asked if you think that choosing Zboril over Chara made them a better team. |

Not changing my tune - my reasoning has always been that for this current team, making the playoffs and losing in first round id definitely worse than not making the playoffs.
I never endorsed the Zorbril pick so (frank) off with that nonsense.
I already answered your question. If you have reading comprehension issues that's your problem. |

Don’t think that the bruins are going to make the playoffs but I love you know it all’s that know what is going to happen in the playoffs. Don’t know if you’re a long time bruin fan but in 2023 one team broke every regular season record and their opponent got in the playoffs the last day. Which went to the finals. |

Ill take the 15th pick in the draft for a shot to make noise in the playoffs. Every time.
Nothing is guaranteed in the playoffs. The 2011 Bruins were no favorites. St Louis Blues were one of the worst teams in hockey at the beginning of the year that they won it. The friggen Montreal Canadiens made a run to the cup during the covid year. Endless examples.
It is an uphill climb but if the Bruins continue playing the right way. Maybe get McAvoy back. Swayman gets hot. You have a team with nothing to lose, and no expectations. Get into the Metro side of things. Washington is beatable. Who knows?

Interesting equivalency you're drawing there. Do you honestly see similarities between the 2023 Florida Panthers and today's Bruins? Curious

No I don’t think they’re similar right now . But you’re looking at the panthers after the fact. Nobody thought they were killers at that time.
Did anybody say before this year the bruins needed a retool and had no chance. Of course not. They are one year removed from being the heavy cup favorite 2023. Then 2024 they go to round 2 and lose in game 6,2-1 to the eventual
Cup winner. In the off season they add just what everyone said they needed a big tough D man and a highly thought of center. But this year the whole group underachieved. The biggest disappointments were that center and the big money goalie. But if they are healthy even now they are not a no chance bottom feeder. It easy now to say they needed this and that , they have no chance because that’s what know it all’s do. I am sure the Washington Caps were everyone's choice to be a serious contender this year . I think plenty said they have no chance before the year.
What I’m saying is only an idiot wants to tank for a little better draft slot instead of having a small chance in the playoffs. It’s not like when the Pens tanked to get Mario. |

Yeah, they're only tied for 1st in the league and almost 30 pts better than the Bruins.
Bruins in 5.

A team on their way up, vs a team on their way down. The analysis here is purely based on points, not underlying factors like a Florida team who was better than advertised during the regular season but were injury plagued versus a team in its twilight years.
Floridas window is still open, they are still good, and have good coaching.
Bruins window is closed. They don't contend with this roster. Their coaching is vastly inferior. If you don't believe me, look at post season coaching records for Sacco.
The equivalency isn't there. You believe in magic. |
