Playoffs has been the goal every year
- corduroy

I don’t think the playoffs are really the goal for the FO. I think the appearance of the possibility of getting into the playoffs is the goal. They want to look competitive to keep up fan interest for much of the season and then move out talent near the end of the season with the hopes of being able to drop low enough to get a valuable pick.

The Nashville pick could be interesting. That is a team that needs to win and a 1st rounder is not exactly a huge help. With the contracts they have and the players that they signed, could you offer your own 1st in a package alongside maybe York.

I thin k the Nashville pick could be in play

Nashville has been looking for a #1 center for over a decade. They are not trading that pick.

Anything is possible, but I believe more likely they would take a prospect who is closer to NHL ready like Martone or even Frondell. Right now, the consensus looks like Schaeffer #1 followed by probably Misa, maybe Hagens. Hagens is likely to get the Shane Wright treatment and get picked apart because his draft year has not been great.

My concern with the Flyers is potentially only focusing on the need to draft a center. By chance, Eklund or Martone could fall to the Flyers and be on the board. I hope they would not bypass those prospects because they need a center and O'Brien is still on the board

Another center possibility is Desnoyers. They are already have his brother in the organization. I do think Mrtka goes top 6 in this draft. Silayev went 10th last season without knowing exactly when he will come over. Mrtka is in the WHL, no such issue. Flyers have a good shot at pick #6. I think they stay away from McQueen. This regime is very aware of optics to the fanbase. I do not believe they really want the comparison of drafting another center from Branden coming back from injury in his draft year.
- Trox88

With Schaefer and Martone most likely being the best at their positions, and probably going in the top 5, we could get the coveted center we need. Desnoyers looks like a better passing center than McQueen. IMO, what I think the Flyers need more of. Get the wingers involved and someone to penetrate and back defenders off. Now, it’s just about getting to that sixth spot or better.

That makes a lot of sense considering they have Tippett who is shot first and Michkov is better when paired with a center who has passing ability. For those reasons, I can see why they would want Hagens even with his down year.

Yes you are correct. I’m assuming they wont get that low. Fingers crossed or lottery luck.

Martone will be long gone and Eklund won’t be drafted by the Flyers because of his size. They are already too small in their minds.

I wouldn’t crap on O’Brien though. By most reports one of the top two or even top overall playmaker in the draft, something the Flyers definitely need.

It's that thinking already being too small at wing is my issue with bypassing Eklund. In my fan opinion, I believe Eklund is a far better prospect then O'Brien. Of course, I could be wrong.

You are probably right and the thinking is wrong by the Flyers but it’s not going to change. It is the likely reason they passed on Perreault and most definitely the reason that passed on Buium. Unfortunately there is a certain level of stupidity one has to except with being a Flyers fan.

That being said I wouldn’t be upset if the Flyers took OBrien. A playmaking center to pair with Michkov isn’t that awful of a worst case scenario. Plus this is likely the last time this franchise drafts this high and a team is more likely to get a stud winger later in the draft than a stud center.

I get it but that roster is not a "let's look 3-4 years down the road". The guys they have signed long term are win now. Not sure anyone this draft does that.

Do you have O'Brien rated higher then Desnoyers? Frondell could drop out of the top 5. I doubt they have interest in McQueen.

The rankings have been all over the place but it does seem like Desnoyers and OBrien are in the same tier for most people. Desnoyers sounds a lot like Couturier and with how much the Flyers love drafting out of the Q that is probably who they want.

I think Frondell goes before Hagens. Martone is going to go before both most likely 2nd overall is my guess. A lot with depend on the lottery but most of the teams at the top of the draft outside of Nashville don’t really need centers and Chicago and San Jose each got a possible #1 defenseman in last years draft. Chicago could go for a 2nd line center but I think they would want someone to put with Bedard

I am pleased with Drysdale's development over the last 30 games. For now, he definitely needs more of a defensive Dman as a partner. Sanheim and Drysdale together just does not work. I hope Drysdale trusts his shot more often. I would like to see him have at least 3 shots on goal each game. Still a little too passive in the offensive zone willing to shoot. Defensively, his game is standing up at the blueline and not backing up. He has done a much better job of doing that for awhile now.

Hopefully with someone new running the PP next season, we can see development running the PP. That will not be possible with Rocky in charge. The PP is a black hole, dead and buried.

Yes, I do because the one area the media is starting to point a finger at the regime is Rocky. Rocky only survives because Torts allows it to happen. The regime must do things this summer to generate excitement. The average attendance is about 90% capacity. Which is not bad, but still below pre-Covid levels for attendance. They are very aware of the boos during this homestand, IMO.

Hopefully that’s the case and none of this finish strong bs that’s cost the team draft spots countless times in the past.

Ahhh like the good ol days when they won last 5 useless games of season and beat Buffalo last game of season costing them 1 spot in draft (to Buffalo) who choose one Rasmus ristolainen in draft 1 spot before Philly who wanted him so bad years later they traded a ridiculous amount to obtain and them moronically resigned to a stupid ass extension that a decade later just shows how stupid it is for a poop to win games late in season.

I think he could fall. Current draft order is San Jose, Chicago, Buffalo, Nashville.

Misa is going first overall because he can also play the wing so San Jose and Chicago would love to put someone like him with Celebrini or Bedard. If the order holds, the other would take Martone hoping he’s another Tkachuk. Buffalo doesn’t need a left handed defenseman. They are looking to trade one so they pass. Nashville might be tempted but they have needed a 1C for more than a decade and they also have no intention of drafting this high again. Seattle doesn’t need centers so they would take Schaefer at 5. Same with Pittsburgh. If only the Flyers can tank harder than those two he could fall right into their lap.

Last year, Ersson melted down because of being over worked apparently. This year, we are seeing a repeat at the end of the season, minus games played. I doubt Fedotov gets any better. I do believe goaltending will help them get down to 6th overall. I believe Crosby finds a way to get a few more victories then this Flyers team. SEA is going to be tough to pass for 5th, not impossible. 5th is the ceiling for this season.

You can still play and coach to win while getting reps for other players. The "winning" culture they currently have hasn't resulted in much winning. So they are basically already trying real hard to win but not. So play some different players and see what you have.

And that’s EXACTLY why you sell off assets at their peak like tk. But no not this stupid ass team. They give out extensions. The longer the better

This team is ready to completely quit on Tortorella so it is possible that fall off the cliff. Wishful thinking I know but this team was tired of him last year when they were in a playoff spot and nearly lost 10 straight. It could happen.

Do you really think Hagens is having a down year? Or is it just that a few of the other players have just really made huge leaps?

A PPG average as a freshman is pretty good and he was lights out (IMO) at the WJC. I would be overjoyed if they were in a position to draft him.

Teams were worried about his size at midseason. For him to overcome that the production had to be way better.

Top 5 you select BPA in every (major) sport....only exception might be NFL? But in that case, someone's trying to draft a QB so you just trade if you really want something else.
