I (or my dog) may have cracked the code by accident for 10pm games. Watched he’s 2 periods, turned it off and went to sleep.
Awakened by the dog who wanted to go out (and of course do nothing but bark at the air and smell the smells).
Crawled back into bed and couldn’t sleep so went and turned TV on and caught the last 3 min of OT and the shootout.
Back to bed to sleep. The nap between the end of the 2nd and half of OT was nice.
From what I’ve read and saw this win was all Will which is awesome. To see him bounce back after a tough last game is great.
Marner and Matthews scoring in the shootout was a nice change and also great to see. Willy just missed his shootout attempt but it a a good strategy he took - as a goalie that one beats you more often than not.
Will in the shootout was calm & confident.
Nice to get a win in a game they kinda fell apart in. Hope it helps get them back to where they can be and were.
I agree new guys still trying to figure it out and will both get better.
Man the Tanev loss is bigger than I thought he’s so damm good. I hope he’s back soon, anyone heard any updates?

I think you got auto-corrected here from Woll to Will. I thought you were reading Willy was great and I found myself thinking, "Eh . . .he had a good start and a poor finish. By the end of the third I was just as irritated with him as I was with Marner."
But yes, Woll was definitely yesterday's hero.

Yes guy 💙
None of the goals were on him
He needed a bounce back game

about that cap going up
Rick Westhead
With the stock market in free fall, President Trump is promising more new tariffs on Canada, calling again for Canada to join the U.S. as its 51st state, and is threatening to "permanently shut down" the Canadian auto sector.
(Ontario's auto sector employs more than 140K workers and is the world's second-largest after Michigan.)
The sports industry, like all sectors, is not immune from the uncertainty.
An NHL team executive told me today concerns are mounting that North America is heading towards a recession and that the Canadian dollar will plunge to $0.60 cents or less. (The dollar’s record low was $0.618 in 2002.)
The seven Canadian NHL teams and three Canadian MLS teams pay player salaries in U.S. dollars and generate most of their revenue in Canadian dollars. |

Garbage time comes early for the top teams. The Leafs are struggling to stay focussed.
They will be much better in the playoffs. They'll still lose in the first round of course. |

I do wonder if having 2 home games in 40 days has something to do with it.
These guys have been on the road for 90% of the time. |

100%. Last year, I was shocked how different they played in the playoffs. I think this year's team is much better constructed and harder to play against. Obviously, the Atlantic is going to be a gauntlet, but I could see them finally putting it together this year. |

Winning the division is important. I think we have learned its not going to make a big difference who you face 1st round but we can all agree avoiding the Panthers fully healthy is positive.
So winning the division and putting them against a pretty good TB team is a must. |

Both the Leafs and Lightning both look a little disengaged and lazy out there. Losing puck battles, half-assed forecheck, passes that are just a little off, and just generally abandoning that "200 foot game" that gets coaches hard.
I think it speaks to the underlying issues with these kinds of clubs constructed around elite talent. Lack of quality depth (or player buy-in on systems) is masked by elite shooting or goaltending talent. On some nights, like last night, your goalie bails you out. Other nights your gamebreakers bail you out. Luckily for the Leafs, Papi and Marndog stepped up in the shootout to rescue that second point that was almost left on the table.
Like Fake said, the Leafs and Lightning are kinda in garbage time and it shows. Other teams are fighting for their lives, while our guys are fighting for divisional seeding.
Instead of letting off the gas and taking nights off, this is when the team needs to toughen up and get into playoff mode and smoke these middling teams.

I hear you, but there really should be no garbage time in the Atlantic. Toronto, Florida and Tampa look to have the 1-3 spots between them, but even if the Leafs have a terrible finish, they should still reach a minimum of 97 points; I'd guess they reach 103 if they don't pull up their socks.
Florida feels like they have a good shot at 109.
Tampa feels like they should get 104-106.
Ottawa looks like they could reach 97.
Then Detroit, Boston and Montreal all seem like they'll finish outside - although probably sequenced as Montreal, Boston, Detroit. Detroit in particular has a ridiculously difficult schedule from here to the end of the year.
But going into garbage time while the Florida teams continue to play so well is definitely a recipe for being the visitors as they enter the playoffs. |
