Any trades today?

So the Jays offered vlad $400- $450m deferred, but he turned it down. He wants $500 over 14 years , not bad. But the last 4 years wouldn't be great.
An average of $35m per year is acceptable imo

I think he just wants out at this point. Jays literally walked him to free agency. Why take him to arbitration two years in a row if you're gonna offer this cash?

If you think he's a 35 mil year player today. You didn't think so a year ago?

i dont think he wants out, I just think he wants what he thinks hes worth.
It not uncommon, Judge did the same with the Yankees.

But if you are looking at his stats, he really only had 1 Elite season before this last one. so it was a risk to pay him big money if he had another 120 ops+ 25hr season, it would look terrible.

I dont think shapiro views him as a $35-40m player.
His play has been up and down.
For WAR, he was 13th in 2024, could find him in the top 100 war, 70th in 2022, and 6th in 2021.
Even for OPS 2024 - 6th, 2023 - 60th, 2022 - 27th, 2021 - 2nd.

So hes been all over the place. For $35m you want more consistency. Imo

Young Willy Nylander, so swift,
Scored goals with a magical gift.
His speed on the ice,
Was quite a device,
Leaving rivals all sadly adrift.

? - who does Matthews hand the cup to first after he raises it, kisses it and screams FAAAAAAAKKK YA?

I say playoff hero Anthony Stolarz but maybe it's playoff leading scorer Willy with Marner being a close 3rd as he racks up the 2nd most playoff points of all players.

It will always be an unlikely suspect scoring the cup clinching goal. So, you know it will be Kampf who scores it. Matthews hands it directly to Kampf first.

edit: or, better yet, Bobbyson scores it and goes from trade bait to legend.

Correct.

Tavares first as the ex-captain.

Then Rielly as longest serving Leaf.

Yes, in this HIGHLY theoretical, some (idiots) might say improbable scenario, the cup 1000% goes from Matthews to JT.

We could, and he could play in our remaining regular season games, but he wouldn't be eligible for playoff games.

So technically he could still be there to hoist the cup, a la Denis Savard.

Oh, really? What disqualifies him from playing in the playoffs? Needs to be on the roster at TDL?

Oh snap ya I change my order now because somehow I forgot about JT.

It's JT for sure 1st, then my prediction of the order stands.

That's my understanding (I can't find a good source to back me up, though).

I think there's exceptions regarding players in junior and NCAA.

Fun fact: the Leafs could still trade for a player, and have him play in our remaining games. But that player wouldn't be able to play in the playoffs either. The "Trade Deadline" is really just "The Trade Deadline for Playoff Eligibility."

I'm kinda shocked we don't see more trades after the TDL.

Matthews wont be on the ice....he'll be injured. Shoulder injury, no cup raising for him.

But if not injured, its JT first.
