I think a lot of it boils down to luck. Rest Hughes and Demko, Lose the rest of the season and hope to get a top 5 pick (1oa would be nice) and then compete next year. Trading boeser/suter would have made this easier. Could have used those futures at draft to get pieces to win now.
I would like to see them sign bennett, but I doubt he comes here unless we over pay. - Retinalz
They aren't going to sell Petey or Hughes when they just gave up a 1st round pick for Marcus Pettersson. They'll continue to build towards the future.
As for Bennett, they need more, WAY MORE, than an energy guy who can chip in offensively. I like Bennett, and I'd love to have him, but they need skill and scoring. BTW...Bennett fought Zadorov last night, he did not fare well LOL. |

The New York Times Company acquired The Athletic in January 2022 for a reported $550 million. That's a link to The Athletic.

They'd have to overpay Bennett, and the Canucks need some high-end skill... Bennett hasn't cracked 50 points in a season ever, let alone on a pretty great Panthers team. Doubt he's reaching that on the Canucks.
Would rather them overpay for Marner to get some actual scoring. - NewYorkNuck
From what I've seen of Marner he is more of a set-up man. He does look to have the ability to bury, but seems reluctant to do so at times and I think would need a shooter. If he can reinvigorate Boeser - that could be an interesting pairing. We'd then be left with quite the softy team and not sure the $ for both works there either. Maybe a Boeser-Marner-Joshua line could be something though.
All that said, there aren't really a lot of options for UFA, and as mentioned before banking on someone choosing canucks seems less likely with each passing drama. Might have to rely on a trade to force someone of high impact to come to Vancouver and hopefully fall in love with city. Appears to be most primary thing left working in their favour to attract high-level talent. Hasn't been a winning organization for some time now post prime Sedin era (save for a season and half) and must be seen more and more as dysfunctional from the outside at this point. |

I wasn't the genius asking if I have a subscription to the Athletic. I thought it was pretty obvious that I read that via The Athletic.
I guess you also need things spelt out for you, similar to the ones yesterday, when I said, it may have to involve trading Hughes.
Clearly I was implying that as a solution to a Benning special, retool on the fly, as Hughes alone would fetch a nice return

I thought you were so against it from conversations a few years ago. You called all their writers garbage and asked why any fool would subscribe to that LOL. Oh how times have changed. I remember NYN and I explaining how it was more than just Canucks hockey, it was hockey in general, baseball, football, and many, many other sports. |

This will never happen, even if I agree with you on it, they will never trade this kid unless he won't re-sign and he's prepared to walk away from the organization. |

I still believe that
Also, that ranking was on my news feed, so I thought I would share it, but take it with a grain of salt, it was by Pronman |

I agree, but since this is a hockey chat siite, I thought I would throw it out there.
If things continue going south, they may have no choice though.
Also, just over a year ago, many thought Pouty was an untouchable, now most Canucks fans want him gone, it also appears management is fine moving him |

From Drance
In 8.3 games since the Four Nations Faced Off, Vancouver has now been outscored 14-2 at 5-on-5 in about 220 minutes with Elias Pettersson or Filip Chytil on the ice. |

“Since the J.T. Miller trade, the Vancouver #Canucks rank 29th in PDO.
They're a much more respectable 14th in CF% and 12th in xGF%. The process has been better than the results.
The puck luck has not been going their way in a dramatic reversal of last season.” |

A real barn burner tonight.
“ The two lowest scoring teams in 2025 faceoff tonight at the Saddledome
The Calgary Flames have scored 63 goals in 26 games
The Vancouver Canucks have scored 61 goals in 28 games” |

I didn't watch last night and I wont be watching tonight either. I'm looking forward to their elimination and the draft, even free agency is meh to me. I'm looking forward to fishing, BBQing and entertaining. |

The way the Canucks have been playing, it’s hard to watch a full game. Not like last year. |

You know they'll win tonight and pop back into a playoff spot just to string us along a little longer. Tis the plight of a canucks fan. |
