Yes, they have value. But we have to be realistic here and understand they don't have Jack Eichel, Stone, Hertl, Hanifan value. At least, IMO they don't. The Flyers just simply dont have the value in assets to acquire players like that. Even the 1st for Laughton is at best in the mid to upper 20's. In most drafts that is a second or 3rd line player unless they get very lucky. This team needs multiple elite players and they have no realistic path to get them as long as they continue on this path.

I was curious about revisting the returns for Stone and Eichel. Here's the breakdown. I just did not feel like breaking down Hertl and Hanifin honestly-

Mark Stone and Tobias Lindberg for Erik Branstrom, Oscar Lindberg and a 2nd round pick. At the time, Branstrom was considered one of the best Dmen prospects not playing in the NHL at the time. Lindberg was a bottom 7 forward who showed some scoring ability who had size. Couple years down the road, McCrimmon won obviously.

Jack Eichel and '23 3rd round pick for Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, '22 1st round pick, '23 2nd round pick. Tuch was a top 6 forward playing in the NHL, and Krebs was 20 at the time and a former 1st round (17). Picks exchanged speak for themselves. Now the caveat with Eichel could be well he needed to neck surgery. Fair enough.

However, any potential elite players have some sort of issue because that is the reason they are available in the first place. As an example, I am strongly on do whatever it takes to trade for Elias Pettersson. All the reasons for why not to trade for him have been written and talked about extensively already. The belief that Briere cannot put an offer to get him, I do not believe. Now, it may involve players and assets currently deemed untouchable publically at the moment. Hopefully, that is just public posturing not actually a belief.

Are you keeping track of all the prospects in North America and in other countries?

What does that have to do with my post? You are by far one of the most uneducated posters on these boards. You offer absolutely nothing. You know very little about hockey and show it every day.

Assuming Philly isn't on his no trade list, the biggest absolute no brainer move for Briere and Co to make is to try and get John Gibson from Anaheim this summer.

I'd offer any of our acquired 1sts with one of our 2nd round picks or a decent prospect and see what the Ducks say. Considering his talent, experience level and the fact that he has a perfect stop gap contract, I'd even be willing to offer two of our acquired firsts if it means the Ducks add in a pick or another mid prospect coming back.

That’s a huge overpay for Gibson.

It is your belief teams like Utah, Winnipeg, San Jose, Buffalo, and other organizations who are already in the lower third of attendance will be able to spend within few million dollars of the cap ceiling with projected cap for the '26 season at $104 million and '27 season $113.5 million (according to Puckpedia). The cap this year is $88 million. I will disagree that all clubs will just be able to just pass the additional expenses to its customers and hope to maintain current attendance levels, merchandise sales, etc., which are already lagging behind the rest of the league.

As far as assets currently within the organization not being good enough to trade for another team to give anything back. Again, that's your opinion, which if it turns out be correct, then they wil remain in purgatory no doubt.

What? You are looking at this completely wrong from the jump…
1st off not one owner in the league is not a billionaire. Most are owned by ownership group. We saw this during Covid. How many teams were sold off? None. NHL teams while yes is big business even with no attendance etc owners aren’t selling. So yes teams are going to spend. The only reason the cap goes up is revenue goes up. The split is still 50/50 with players. So as long as the revenues continue to rise the owners don’t care. If not the cap comes down. Do some teams say hey we’re cheap (Carolina) and watch closely. Sure but yet they still spend. There is gonna be very little if any fleece opportunities due to teams not spending to cap. And Philly wouldn’t be the only hawks in the waters. So it’s extremely unlikely it’s even an option. It shouldn’t even really be thought of

To show an example as bad and horrible of an organization as the Sabres are (since everyone bashes Buffalo) their owner is worth 7 billion. Do you think he cares about cap going up a few million?

Getting a goalie is the last thing this team should be doing

Goalie should literally be priority number one, followed by a scoring center. Ersson has done nothing to show he deserves the starter role going into next year and Fedotov just doesn't look like an NHL caliber goalie period.

A first round pick+ is what it will take to get someone like John Gibson, who's absolutely a starter and a better option than anyone the Flyers currently have as well as any of the available UFAs. His contract is perfect for our situation. We need a legit stop gap starter until one of our other prospects is ready to take the leap.

We have a gluttony of picks in the first 2 rounds of a mediocre draft. This is a no brainer move, again, assuming Gibson would actually agree to come here. A tandem of him and Ersson makes this team much more competitive on paper going into next season.
