Not necessarily - depending on how good they are, they could be 1-2 years. There's Currently 23 of 32 1st rounders from 22' draft are in the league.
That core will have zero help when/if they start making consistent playoff runs - in the next 3-6 years. Lekker/DPetey - 22' Willander/Mynio - 23' - NO ONE from 24' - the gap has begun.
Another huge consideration is not having high end prospects/productive guys on ELC's during "the window" - all successful/cup winning teams rely heavily on those type of contributions. And that's where theres gonna be a huge gap if they don't start drafting AND hitting on regularily with 1st & 2nds. - Brooks_Light
Presumably they're gonna be picking at 15+ in what's widely considered to be a weak draft... it's going to be at the best case scenario 2 years, more than likely 3-4. And if the goal is to maximize the window in Hughes' time... that's gotta be an immediate return. I get the balancing thing, especially with contracts, but from this management group plus the window they've set out around Hughes, it's not so likely they're looking to do something slow.
And I don't agree that cup winning teams rely heavily on them. Pretty sure the past two didn't have any meaningful contributors on ELCs. |

Yup there's an overwhelming amount of "fans" in here that absolutely hate when the team wins or plays well. Fawks up their narrative!
Zero "props" will be given.
Cracks me up when posters in here complain about Hughes dominance as if its a bad thing.
I love this one - "the whole team relies on him" and the oilers dont rely on Leon/McD? Having a dude that singlehandedily steal games is a great problem to have.
Or my fav "trade him now while he has value." and then what? Anybody think We'll ever draft another QH?? - Brooks_Light
Trading Hughes is my favourite as well. 50 years of complaining the Canucks have never drafted a guy like Hughes ---> 7 years after drafting him "Well we better move him while he can fetch a haul" |

I don't know if that logic about ELCs tracks. Looking back at the last 4 cup winners, the only ELC of consequence I can find is Lundell. You could maybe argue Ross Colton, but really if you look at the low end of the salaries on the winning teams it's mostly guys with some experience who ended up on cheap deals for one reason or another, very few rookies. |

Going into last night's game the Jets were #1 in the league with the best goals for/against differential. By the standings they were the best team in the NHL. But sure. - NewYorkNuck
I get it. It brings up an interestung question, does anyont have the capitals or jets as cup favourites? |

Hard no on a 1.12PPG player over his career???? - 50pts in 57 playoff games. The dude typically puts up 90+ points consistently but sure why would we want a guy like that??
Vs.
Ehlers .77PPG and 4g / 14pts in 37 playoff games
Not sure that makes much sense. I like both players TBH. Marners clearly better, an elite distributor, 25goals guranteed, special teams beast, about to turn 28 - still a lot of good years left.
The olive branch is Marner does seem to somewhat disappear in the POs but in fairness - most of the Leafs stars do as well.
His price tag is gonna be HIGH - a lot of suitors. - Brooks_Light
Marner had ONE decent playoff year I wouldn't take that on averages. He disappears most PO's at the most inopportune times. Unless that changes...pass. |

I’m sure both teams management and fans have them as cup favourites, fact still remains Canucks beat the best and the worst, and lost to a mediocre team. Doesn’t matter what Dreger, Button, or Sportsnet have as predictions, what matters are realtime factual numbers. |

Im just curious if anyone on here is picking one of those teams, i can see what the betting sites have. I dont have the Jets making the west final. I dont have the caps making the east final, so I'm curious |

I'd like to see the match ups before picking winners and losers.
Right now, I'd pick Florida, Tampa from the east and Dallas, Winnipeg or Colorado from the west. Winnipeg needs to get past that 1st round hurdle first. |

I just read an article that the hit on Chytil could be career ending. Anyone heard anything else? |

Ya that’s fair, matchups are key, but I like Edmonton, Avs in the west Florida in the east… hate to say it but I think Toronto might actually do something. They really fixed their d… I hope they don’t, the insufferable fans I will never hear the end of it |
