They have just gotten progressively slower. There's a real fine balance between playoff toughness, speed, grit, scoring, skill, finesse . . . the Leafs fastest guys that we unloaded over the years were largely not that talented, but some of the guys - like Moore, Kapanen, Mikheyev, Engvall . . . just to randomly pick a few - brought speed into the lineup that was useful in ways. But those guys were just never gritty enough.

The difference between these two team's top lines: Leafs setup a wide box, ok to patiently walk the line and look for seams, high to low, low to high...
... the Avs just relentlessly compress the D by quick thrusts into the high danger area. They just attack it immediately.
