Could very easily have been a let down game - but 3rd game in 4 nights, coming off a win against best team in league. They’re handling things well but still a bit fatigued
- Canada Cup

They still have 3 more back to backs…seems a bit crazy.

So many guys were fapping over a 3C on here and when Domi has good wingers, it's almost like they already had one?

I mean when you value Laughton at a 2025 1st and Grebenkin, you have to ask - was there a 2LW option that could have been had with the assets we were willing to spend? Even a 3LW option for less . . . But as I said, while Laughton is having a tough start - we do have him for two years, so I do think he'll acclimate and be valuable and I believe it happens this year.

I agree. On the flip side, Carlo has settled right in beside Morgan.
Reilly is much better now than he was pre Carlo, and that will only get better.

Yup, agreed on Carlo.

Laughton, I really hope he's worth it, but historically, these kind of deadline deals rarely pan out.

McCabe is looking pretty good at $4.5M for the next 5 years.

Yeah, him and Tanev... great trades.

I do kinda sorta maybe wish we hung onto Lillybust. OEL-Lilly would be a pretty solid bottom pairing.

I am far too scared to look at what we have traded away all our 1st rounders for over the past 10 years.

I think you like that mix of one guy who can grind, hit and physically outmuscle the opponent (Carlo / Rielly; OEL / Benoit; McCabe / Tanev). Lilly just didn't fit in here because on that depth chart I'd rather have all of the above guys for their specific roles over what he could bring.

I liked Lilly, but I like Benoit as well.
Lilly was pretty poopty his last season with the Leafs, no doubt about it.

I do, I just think Benoit's going to cost a game/series at some point, and I don't like handicapping players on their wrong side like OEL.
b
And Benoit's the kind of guy that's a wrecking ball, probably a limited shelf life, so having him on rotation with an RHD makes sense to me.

Also not in love with Matthews and Marner playing so many PK minutes when a) it's not like we're lights-out on the PK anyways b) we have tons of plugs that can kill penalties.

I get it, have Fatty Matty out there for the last 30 seconds of the PK or whatever and hope for a shorty/chance, but those guys already see so much ice-time, seems like it's overkill.

Random question: do any goalies still get called for playing the puck outside of the trapezoid?

I don’t recall any the past few years.

If I recall, I saw a list of back to backs somewhere.
Toronto and Carolina had 16 and Winnipeg had 8. Seems (frank)ed up.

I’m pretty sure I saw one during a late game this year…can’t recall the details outside of the goalie playing on the right side of my TV, lol.
