Dude has zero confidence right now. That was a nice look to Poehling at the end. I can't blame him for not shooting there.

You know what. Id take Giroux back to finish his career here. Whether he still play C or not doesn't matter since we are not trying to build a winner next season. G is the perfect short term player we can get for 1-2 years while we draft and develop.

Id rather see Luchenko sent doen again. Run Coots Giroux, Cates and Poehling for a year and get another low pick

The overall construction of the Caps came from using all 3 avenues of acquiring talent- Draft, trades, and free agency. Chychryn, another great trade moving another good player in Jensen. In the Flyers case, Briere will have to be willing to move a player of value to get value back. Farabee and Frost had the value beaten out of them. To his credit, he did maximize the Laughton return. He needs to hit on some more trades.

He retained and added assets. It's not like that trade was some master class in GM'ing. In my opinion he could have made the same trade a year or two ago.

They MAY be a chance to catch Buffalo only in that they have played 3 less games. I'm not holding my breath because as you say they are pretty rotten.

That being said, if they win the lottery by chance, what is the feeling here? Is it most certainly definitely Schaefer, or does anyone here feel like they should go with Misa?

At 5th it looks like they will have a shot at Frondell, Desnoyers, Hagens, McQueen.

Who out of that gang would we most like?

Personally, I feel like if we win the lottery you have to go with Shaefer, he is the one D to have when you are picking #1.....

I have been back and forth on it. Schaefer by most accounts is a #1 all situations D prospect. Misa is a #1 all situations C prospect.

I won't drag the franchise if they went with Misa. Going by need, you can argue pretty convincingly that the team needs a #1 center way more than anything else.

Here’s how I see my top 6

Misa
Floor: top 6 forward, plays on top pp
Ceiling: Franchise 1C

Schaefer
Floor: #2 D, plays on top pp
Ceiling: all situations franchise 1D

Frondell
Floor: above average middle 6 center
Ceiling: solid 1C

Hagens
same as Frondell.
Frondell gets a slight edge because he has more potential to be the better all around player

Martone
Floor: 2nd line power forward
Ceiling: 1st line wing

Eklund
Floor: high skilled middle 6 wing, plays on top pp
Ceiling: 1st line wing

I do think Jake O'Brien will get drafted in the top 5. A center with good size who could be a 100 point scorer in the OHL as a 17 year old. Brantford is a very good team, and O'Brien has a lot of production on the PP are the some of his negatives.

So far, the Flyers have done a good job of avoiding the loser point, that needs to continue. Hopefully, the Flyers can go the entire month of March without scoring a PP goal. Unless Torts has above average goaltending, his teams have never been serious contenders because his PP has been below average with pretty much all of his teams. Rocky is an issue, but this is very much a Torts problem also.

I'm curious to see what is Noah Cates. His hot streak has now evaporated. Cates gonna get signed long-term to lock down both bottom 6 center spots with Couts basically untradeable. If he finishes strong, might feel more optimistic. I do not want the Flyers to sign Sam Bennett because he is another middle six center at best. He has now 4 40 point seasons and Cates with none. Would not mind more financial flexibility to spend more on top 6 talent and fill out the bottom 6 with what is left.

Unfortunately we are not out of the woods of picking in the 6-7 range. We are essentially right there with Pittsburgh and Seattle. Seattle has a very tough schedule remaining and the flyers is charmin soft after tomorrows game.

But thinking there maybe 10 stud defenseman in the league , but stud center most teams have 1 or drafted 1

McQueen scares me, with back injury

Everything I have read on the McQueen back injury - stress facture that did not require surgery. Not sure that offers any type of comfort level. Not sure this regime would want the optics of drafting another center from Branden with an injury history with a high 1st round pick. I would be surprised if Briere has interest in McQueen.

Would anybody make an offer of some sorts for Levi from Buffalo.? I think Buffalo messed the kid up and I believe he can good once again.
