It has taken me a long time to get to this point, but I now agree with this!
We are not just a player or two away ---- we have to have sweeping changes in the organization and it will start ( hopefully ) with the draft...

- TommyGTrain

I agree too, but random thought…. How does our current team compare with the Philadelphia team that beat us in (2009?) and barely made the playoffs… only to go to the Stanley cup final. I am sure people at the time felt Philly was not constructed to even come close, but they got far.

Could we be another Philly story?

Fun fact we can still choose to give Pitt our 1st this year if we end up with a top 13 pick. I’d say anything after 9 or 10 and we should give it away to avoid an unprotected 1st next year

I’m in the same boat but if they finish around 8-3 they may make it. Very unlikely but no one else is crushing it. MTL and NYI have each gained ground by winning 5 of their last 10 in reg and a few loser points, that’s sad.

Philly had attitude. They might not have been the most talented, but they were a POS to play against. This Rangers squad is Charmin Ultra Soft.

I don't see this management team being able to admit that there is a chance we could be even worse next season.

I think if you leave an unprotected First out there when you don’t have to, after a season like this, when the draft is weak, and you’re outside the top 10 you should be fired and possibly deported to another planet

Was Philly the worst team you’ve ever seen for a large portion of the season that year?

EJ Emerys coach at UND was just fired after a ridiculously successful decade there. Hmmm

Someone poised a question on X

With another sub 50 point season approaching a close, should the Rangers trade Alexis Lafrèniere?

D we view last year and the start of this year as the true Laf or what he has done the remainder of the season since he signed his contract and pre-2023-24 as the real him? That will drive how the team proceeds. Right now, hard not to think of him as a quasi bust. But they may look at what Kakko has done in Seattle as a cautionary tale of moving on too soon.

Basically, do not sell low on him but if there’s somehow a deal for a difference maker then go for it

Yes, to an extent. If a diff maker on a one year deal, that might not be the wisest use of an asset.

Drury will trade him for a 4th, depth defenseman and 7th and everyone on here will say Drury is the savior

Sure its asinine to talk about at this point, but it has to be someone like Brady... and obviously LAF alone wont be enough to make that happen, which Im fine with. The problem is the offers would be outrageous and probably something we cant compete with.

I always hoped LAF could be our Landeskog, but he seems to lack that initiative and aggression. Hes regressed back to doing all the things I kept ripping him for in prior seasons. Not driving the play, stopping at the blue line to look for a pass, constantly trying to defer.

Kakko has pretty much been the same player in Seattle that he was here.

Yup. Hes getting nearly 4:30 more minutes playing with Seattle, and sure the point totals reflect that. The underlying numbers, with NYR he was averaging 2.1 PTS/60, with SEA he is averaging 2.3 PTS/60.
