There we go, I knew that was going to happen.
What are our options? Who is going to trade a legit top 6 center, under the age of 28, for what we have here? - aecliptic
Did you know it was going to happen because the last post i made before that said we need to get younger? All of our centers are over 30 and we have nothing in the pipeline.

Point is people have a lot to say and no suggestion on how to do it. They need this, that and other, and he has to be this years old, and he has to be able to play like this, that and the other...
Ok. Who's out there? |

Instead of playing that game how about this. We have young roster players like Laf, K'Andre, Othmann, Berard, Jones, etc. We have picks. We have B and C level prospects. Whatever you think you can get with a combination of those. You have to imagine Drury understands that drastic changes are needed. |

Sure we do... now put the shoe on the other foot. Youre a GM of the other team, you have a young, legit top 6 center. What, in that list, would you want to trade for? |

Lafreniere has 2 goals in his last 25 games now
I know he's chipping in assists, but I think his scoring ability is the most frightening of all the frightening things |

Idk? Anaheim seems like a good target. They have too many centers. Some teams that underachieve in the playoffs perhaps? Maybe Dylan Larkin? He’s about as old as I’d go there. Target teams that are in a similar spot to us in terms of looking to overhaul |

Detroit seems to be trending upwards, why would they trade their Captain?
Anaheim... ok... Zegras? No thanks. Talented, sure. But if were talking about the types of players that provide an identity to the team, hes not it. MacTavish, yes Id like him. Nothing on that list really entices me, as a GM, to trade MacTavish.
The thing is most teams in our position arent looking to overhaul because most of those teams arent coming off a Presidents trophy. Most of those teams have been out of the playoffs or have been fringe teams for a while. |

This is why Ive said if we could trade LAF before the NMC kicks in, I would do it. If Ducks would take LAF for MacTavish, Id do it in a heartbeat, but I cant imagine Verbeek doing that trade without us sweetening the pot. |

Detroit is about to miss the playoffs again… trending up???
Yes, mctavish is who I was thinking of. But again, I don’t like these types of exercises because we are dumb fans with no idea of what teams actually want. Do you not try if you’re drury?
I just don’t understand what you want them to do, or try to do. If there aren’t big changes then drury shouldn’t be there

I just dont think the trades are out there for good young top 6 centers. So plan B, in my opinion, is rather than making a trade for the sake of making a trade, if we can get 1st round picks or top end prospects to refill and stack the prospect pool up, then so be it. Thats why I said why not Tavares. I get hes 34 years old, but for 2-3 years while kids develop, we have a legit 2C. Trocheck moves to 3C and now we have a strong 1,2,3 punch down the middle.
I mentioned MacTavish in the previous post. |

I know we are entering into fire Drury season, but the only one who has the ability to fire Drury is James Dolan, and I just dont think Dolan is going to be at that point yet.

Everything is pretty bad. It’s worse that with as bad as he is he still has second most 5v5 points |

I just feel like this is going to be regurgitated all summer and his absolute ineptitude scoring goals in the 2nd half when this team really needed him will be ignored
ultimately I cannot believe Laf wont get 20 goals in his 5th NHL season but likely play every single game, its crazy |

What makes no sense is that line was the only line that really stayed untouched for most of the season. What happened there? How did this line absolutely loose their mojo? |

I mean is there a different person ahead of Drury on the front office depth chart with the ability to fire Drury that I don't know about?
Because Drury's titles are President, GM and Governor I do believe, maybe even Mayor too

I wouldn't cut Laf loose until Lavy is fired & we give him one last chance with another staff before waiving his ass |

Thats the thing, you cant. As of July 1st. LAFs contract becomes full NMC. Cant waive him, cant trade him. |

What I don’t get and why I refuse to get into the Drury hate/sucks talk is he is getting all the blame for this season. He is at total fault by most. But then he gets no credit for helping the team get to 2 of the last 3 ECF. It can’t work both ways. If he gets all the blame now, then he has to get most of the credit for those years. You don’t suck as a GM if you lead teams to deep playoff runs. One season doesn’t ruin that |

Ok, now I had to look again, because for some reason this whole time I thought he got a NMC built into his contract.
Ok, Im wrong there. We have 2 years to work with before a NTC kicks in. That changes things. |

Oh and to answer your question, can they be a contender next year? Yea, I think they can be. - aecliptic
With this defense, they will be lucky to qualify for the playoffs let alone be contenders. |

I think Dolan gave the ok for Drury to trade Trouba and Goodrow, there is no way he would still have a job now after what has transpired this season. |

Thats why I brought up Tavares. Getting him would cost us nothing. It would allow us to put our focus on fixing the defense via trade. |

Everything else aside I have to imagine that we are one of the last places he would sign |
