Everything else aside I have to imagine that we are one of the last places he would sign - picklerick
Well, yea. But it was more so as an example, because I knew at 34yo, although hes still playing a PPG, many here will use that as their reason for not wanting to bring him here. |

I can see him taking a slight discount to stay there so they could also resign Marner. |

if Toronto has a 1st round exit again they could very well lose their minds up there

What makes no sense is that line was the only line that really stayed untouched for most of the season. What happened there? How did this line absolutely loose their mojo? - aecliptic
How did the PP that is basically the same or better personnel go from top 5 for three years to bottom 10? Everything just not working

I just feel like this is going to be regurgitated all summer and his absolute ineptitude scoring goals in the 2nd half when this team really needed him will be ignored
ultimately I cannot believe Laf wont get 20 goals in his 5th NHL season but likely play every single game, its crazy - jimbro83
Laf has been pathetic. This just shows that everyone else is as well. Nothing has worked well |

Makes you wonder was last year just an extension of Gallant mixed with Lavy, and now that Lavy has had a full season plus the off-season to do what he wanted... we're now seeing the product of that? |

Lafreniere has 2 goals in his last 25 games now
I know he's chipping in assists, but I think his scoring ability is the most frightening of all the frightening things - jimbro83
I feel like we've seen him show really good scoring ability - on rare occasions. You don't just lose that. I think the bigger issue is how he doesn't get himself into the positions to use that ability. We watch from a bird's eye view and WE don't know where he's going to be. Imagine being his linemate and trying to figure that out!! |

last week when Shesterkin made that beautiful pass to him and set him up right down the middle to the net and he blew that I just shook my head

He started reverting back to the things that drove me absolutely nuts before when he crosses into the zone and stops at the blue line to make a pass.
Im also noticing more now then ever how reliant they are for the defense to create plays for them. They get deep into the zone, boom, pass out to the blue line. Get in the slot, pass out to the blue line. What this team is constantly doing, and maybe Im focusing a bit more now then ever under a lens, is shortening the distance the opposing team has to cover to get to their zone. How many times are the passes back to the blue line getting tipped and theres an odd man rush coming the other way? Another thing that absolutely KILLED me the last couple games. Theyre stuck in their zone, they need to clear the puck, they get the puck and instead of putting the puck passed the blue line, they pass it back to the D and turn it over. LIKE WTF?! |

The problem is forwards "release" to early and the D has no one there to assist with the break out. How rare has it been to see pass to blue line, then hit forward at red line with space? It almost never happens, so instead of coming up with speed, it plodding across the neutral zone. |

The issues in transition through the neutral zone has been well documented here over the last 5-7 years. |

I think playing with Panarin has rubbed off on him too much. The problem is nobody on this team is as skilled as Panarin and able to make the seam passes that he does. So when Laf pulls up and can't make the same pass Panarin does he's just dead in the water.
Laf needs to play a north-south game where he can be physical and get to the net. Stopping inside the blue line does none of that. |

I think this goes back to the poor development of prospects here. Rather than working with these kids on becoming the best version of themselves, they try to be like other players.
What the writers wrote about LAF coming out of juniors and what we've seen out of him have been polar opposites. A play driving scoring forward, with a powerful stride, excellent vision and an elite wrist shot. Either hes holding himself back or the coaching and development on this team is an absolute dumpster fire.
Someone on the staff needs to sit him down in the video room, pull up videos of him from the World Juniors and Rimouski, and beat it into him... WERE IS THIS GUY?! WE WANT THIS GUY!! |

The problem with this team is that everyone is having a down year, some players have good years some slump but a whole team? I say impossible. I hope at the end of the season someone goes off record and explains what happened, they owe it to us.
There is no way Lavy is back so we will go thru another coaching change. |

As much as Id want someone young with a fresh view and a fresh mind, this team might need an a-hole like Coach Q. |

I think they are still wary of that type of coach because David Quinn was so bad
the coaching job done this year by Laviolette though I think is the worst job by a Rangers coach considering the expectations since Colin Campbell in '98
and I am somebody who thought Lavi deserved Jack Adams love last season
this is a disaster |

Coach Q is the only answer for this group - nyrangers9479
Then comes the next question, do they believe that Coach Q can fix this team as is, or will they still need an overhaul? Also, if they do get Coach Q, does the team give Jonathan Toews a PTO?
They still need a LD for Fox, and should move on from Kreider and fix that 3rd line. But I mean... no trading Miller or Zib... |
