And it’s clear to see why some( myself included) did not want mm around team until the TORTurer was gone. It’s clear by the way he’s playing just how much he was being held back by tort whether on purpose or not. What we see is not mm learning or being taught how to play the proper way but being stifened. This is why you don’t let a torts be your coach. They wasted essentially 2 prime years of developement on the young players that may possibly fit a timeline of mm era. - Stayin alive
He was doing fine. He still had 50 points under Torts in his first full NHL season

Doing fine? Bs. Being coached in practice and games with threat of benching etc etc as briere said torts coached him “hard” you could see the reluctance in his game. The last 2 games you have to either be blind or purposely obtuse to NOT see how mm is being unleashed to play with his instincts and not held back. Will he screw up? Certainly but you see the advantage to allowing high end elite talent like mm being allowed to play with their instincts.
And sorry but not sorry I don’t ever want to see “just fine” play out of a talent like mm. Just fine he says. No offense but (frank) outta here with that. When you gone superstars or pay to see them regardless of what it is in life just fine my ass. No one wants that - Stayin alive
Development takes time. MM is not going to be a core piece over night.Reprecussions are necessary for some players to learn. MM hs commonly made the same mistakes over and over despite it being brought up. You need reprecussions to have those lessons sink in. If you want the Flyers to ever Win a Stanley Cup Offense is not going to do it alone. Getting 100 points doesnt help the team if you are on the ice for 100+ goals against.
Difference between good players and elite players is that they are a net positive on the ice. He has to know when and when not to cheat, when to come back and support his teammates and what needs to be done to win games. No one needs him to be a selke candidate. MM a few games ago made a great play which is 100% Torts fort written all over it. He took a hit to make a play to I think it was TK and TK scored.
Torts isnt the only one capable of teaching these lessons but they need to be taught and they are not hindering his development. Him putting up more points with more ice time doesnt make his offensive skill disappear. It will always be there.
MM needs to learn how to be a player that plays top line mins against talent such as McDavid, Drasaitl, Marner, Matthews, Mackinnon ect. You simply cannot trade chances with these guys on the ice.

I think you give Torts too much credit. Go back and watch MM highlights from the MHL and KHL, he does this kind of thing all the time.

“Great offering,” eh, Ek? 😂
It reads like the crap you’ve been writing on this site since its inception. |

Now I’m worried. Don’t get too cute and blow this draft position. I think we all can agree it was time for Torts to go. On the other hand, it probably would have been the best in terms of the draft if he stayed. Guessing the optics would have looked terrible if they kept him on after the blowout with York, and him basically saying he didn’t have any interest in coaching this team beyond that. Suddenly, after two quick wins and another patsy tomorrow, being in a three way tie for the sixth spot is not as appealing. I’m not one to root against but, while down at the bottom might as well take the rewards that it brings. |

Players and coaches dont care about draft position. I dont know how bad the Torts\York thing was but from a draft stand point it would have been better to wait until the season was over. Teams often get a bit of kick in the butt after a coaching fire and play better. We really dont want to play better

Once Tortorella saw the Michigan goal he had it in his mind to be the creativity out of him.....
Pathetic excuse of a coach and human being |

LOL, Im not going to go anywhere near calling him a pathetic excuse for a human being. Just by his charity work in animal rescue I am pretty positive that is not the case. He may have a rough edge when it comes to how he deals with players on the ice, but by most accounts he seems to be a very good human being.

The Flyers won't trade Laughts and Danny doesn't have the guts to fire Torts. Let's keep up those false narratives! When is Torts gonna get his extension according to some folks on here? |

I'm as critical as anyone on how Torts coached this team during his tenure. Completely agree outside of his coaching responsibilities, all evidence suggests Torts has been a positive influence in the community.
Back to on ice-good day for the tank. Big game against NSH-Flyers goaltending still stinks. Just need another scoring drought to form again.

These last two games have put the preds out of reach. Finishing 4th worst is the best they can hope for. Big pens win. If we pass Boston I’m going to flip |

I agree. Looks like the range is 4th thru 9th they can finish. Goaltending is still trash, not sure the team can maintain scoring over 4 goals a night to win. If they can, then 4th will be out of reach quickly.
