IF (and likely a big if) NYR make the playoffs, do you think immediate playoff experience/exposure could be a good thing for Gabe?

I also think that if Igor plays lights out in the playoffs, we can beat anyone. I may sound crazy for saying this, but Washington doesnt scare me much. I think NYR would go into that series with a little confidence

He is the only one that seems to have that view. I believe even Fortescue’s coach felt he could use some seasoning and additional strength.

Sounds like Ryan Leonard will be signing with the #ALLCAPS  today and is likely to make his NHL debut tomorrow vs the Bruins in Boston.

The salary cap and having some space within it is a real concern in almost every season for almost every team. If you think for one second that the organization will put the prospect's desires ahead of the their development AND the fiscal state of the roster, you are kidding yourself.
Obviously, I don't know what's going to happen. But, there is virtually no advantage to the New York Rangers in blowing the 1st year of his ELC in this particular season. So, I would put the likelihood of it happening at less than 1%.

No doubt the cap is always on the mind of every team but the advantage IS having him under contract. If he is great you don't paying that money and if he isn't it becomes a moot point.

We suck. We shouldn't make the playoffs. This is a separate thought for me. I want him to play.

Play out a scenario for me where burning a year off his ELC changes the trajectory of the franchise in such a negative way that the impact is felt for years to come

- picklerick

ELC burns a year, we get tight against the cap and we trade Buch for Blais and a 2nd

The fact some of you are willing to burn a year off the ELC for a lost season is puzzling.
- nyrangers9479

On this board, not at all surprised. Who needs a cost controlled player? We are winning the Cup this season, dont you see the big picture?

I think it’s a bit of overkill with Panarin and Perreault on the same line. Flip him with cuylle or Othmann
- picklerick

Numerous jobs should be lost if Gabe is on the 3rd line. Need to play your prospects in the way you saw them play to make you draft them. Keep him with Bread. They both love East-West...so make it happen.

Have you watch any games this season? We havent beat a playoff bound team this year. Washington is playing great and is being driven by the Ovi run, Im gonna bet that will carry into the playoffs, Caps will win the first round in 5 games against anyone.

Why would this team, who havent won 3 in a row since November have any confidence?

That's a perfectly valid response in this discussion.
Burning a year on his ELC this year may seem like no big deal. But, once we've made a bunch of moves to re-tool and then have to sign his next deal in 2 seasons instead of 3 could very well mean having to return to the bargain bin for our bottom 6 pick ups.

To get the player to agree to leave college, that’s why you burn the year of the ELC, it’s an incentive for the player, so he gets to his 2nd contract quicker

Debating whether they should do it or not is pointless lol

if you want the player, this may be the requirement. That to me is the argument to burn the ELC. Perfect world, signs, ATO at Hartford, ELC kicks in next year. But if he makes burning the ELC a condition as part of the signing, it's the cost of doing business.
