People know how I feel about wanting the Penguins to lose to get a better draft pick, but I want to see Crosby do well and get as many points as possible and would never say sit him.

ideally we lose 5-4 with Sid getting 4 points.

If we get NYR’s first, my dream would be:

Our pick : Eklund
NYR pick: trade NYR first plus a 3rd to move up 2-3 spots and take Jake O’Brien

It'll be interesting if the Rangers miss the playoffs. They could easily hold onto their pick, but would they have reservations about giving up an unprotected first round pick given the top pick is considered generational? They are one Igor injury away from being a lottery team next year, even with a coaching change/roster adjustments.

A best case for the Penguins, assuming we have the Rangers pick, would be:
Penguins pick - top 3/4
Rangers pick - lottery pick 13-16 that the Rangers decide to give up. We have the draft capital to easily move that pick into the top 10 if we wanted to.

My personal stance is barring extreme circumstances it is always dumb to bet against yourself and give up a lottery pick instead of differing. The Metro is a division where all the teams are either old or horrible except for the Devils who seemingly always underachieve. It’s wide open. Rangers could easily make the playoffs next year

I see both sides of the argument, but perhaps next year might not be the best time to be closed minded on the possibilities your team under achieves again. Henderson is right about a shesterkin injury away from the lotto… I have a feeling that if their pick is between 13-10, they still give it up to us.

Idk man, bird in hand. They also have a whole offseason to make moves to make the team better. Unless they’re planning on blowing it up, why would they give us the pick if they’re going to try to get better in the offseason like every team does?

Well they took a huge swing to get JT and they are still missing the playoffs atm. We went and got Karlsson, expecting to make the playoffs and look where that got us.

But I still see your point. This was an unexpectedly bad year by NYR, so a regression next year would be positive. Either or, this is a super good interesting move they have to make that could have huge impacts.

Maybe they give it up in part because of how much deeper next year's draft is. That said, I think they set the bar at 13 for a reason since the trade wasn't that long ago.
