Head coach Peter Laviolette on reason behind scratching Gabe Perreault:

“We’re going to put Berard back in the lineup, so again, 12 forwards. Coming in, I think for a young player — especially straight out of college — there’s going to be times I think where you can teach him and show him and let him watch and learn and practice and play in some games, as well. Where he’s had good impact in the game, where the impact can be more.”

I am not that bent out of shape on this honestly. But as I tweeted, once they are eliminated from playoff contention, if he sits, then I will go ballistic because it truly would make no sense. Give him a game to sit and learn, fine. Have him sit when playing him causing no harm at all, that’s a problem.

Let's be honest, they are eliminated. I can't comprehend anything this organization does.

Serious question - do other teams do this with their top prospects?

Odds are 1.5% as of now. Guess until that number is 0% they’re going to put out the roster they think gives them a chance. Once they’re out, want to see the kids get the bulk of the minutes.

Look at Washington and Ryan Leonard. The answer is no. But Leonard plays a more physical game than Perreault.

Let me introduce you Verbeek & Cronin -

Carlsson last year -
Zegras for most of last year and some this year - recently Cronin sent Strome out instead of Z on a 5 x 3 that Z caused -
Zellweger- & Mintyukov all of this year…

So yeah there are other Teams that do this same stupid Shiit-

I know what the answer is going to be, but Im still gonna throw it out there anyway. Since we are so off at RW... what about this option...

We replace Panarin with Marner...?

Marner is 5 years younger, and pretty much kind of the same type of player as Panarin though more of a playmaker and less of a shooter. We wouldnt have to trade for Marner, meanwhile, we could land a haul for Panarin. So we get younger and it becomes a huge net positive, because of what we could get for Panarin, without losing scoring production. Also giving us more line balance. Lafreniere, Miller, Marner as the top line.

I’ve thought about this and don’t disagree with your thought process. He will command significantly more than Panarin though. Do you want to pay Marner $12M a year?

This isn't me saying no but there's a higher than 0 chance that JT Miller ends up beating the poop out of him

Panarin is making 11.6, it would be a wash financially with the cap making a significant jump.
