I read it, but my heart doesn't bleed for someone that has an agenda to squeeze every dollar out of team. He's putting himself ahead of the team on this one.

There's no chance Rantanen signs the same deal in Dallas as he would in Toronto.

Marner "wants more" because everybody else gets to avoid taxes he doesn't get to avoid living in Toronto.

When agents and players are negotiating contracts, they're talking about what money they take home, not about cap hits.

Vlad Jr. signed a massive deal. He lives in Florida and gets signing bonuses. Otherwise, he doesn't sign in Toronto for "500" million otherwise it'd be more like 220 million deal for him.

If you reside in a different location, usually an income tax free state, you get paid there and avoid Canadian taxes. It's why we have a large contingent of U.S. players on the Leafs. Rantanen probably also could qualify for this if he lives in a low tax state.
