I think the Rangers fire Lavy and improve next year. They'll definitely add over the summer because their window is closing. I was hoping they'd give us this years pick. - madmike71
Next years draft is notably better, deeper. I think 2026 pick will have more value.

I've read a few places that the top few prospects are very, very good, better than the top prospects this year, but it isnt all that much deeper after that than this years. |

Regardless of what happens with that draft pick, I just hope the Rags suck again next year, because I always want them to suck. |

Hoping at least Seattle and Sabres can leap frog us. Also interested to see what NYR does with their pick. Kind of hoping they give us the 2026 unprotected pick and then they get worse lol - drummer829
The problem the Rangers have is a lot of guys arent pulling their weight and they have NTC/NMCs that could make it difficult to deal them. I dont see how they can do a total "revamp" of their roster.
Far more likely they can change the coach, make a few reshuffling moves, and hope their young players take the next step.
I think it'd be really problematic for the Rangers from a PR perspective if they get the 11th/12th pick and say they are giving it away to Pittsburgh because they might be just as bad next year. Coming off a Presidents Trophy two years ago, getting JT Miller, etc. this is an organization that needs the playoffs.

Do they really need a total revamp though? I feel like with a different coach, this team is probably a playoff team. They have talent.

Very fair point on this. Imagine the PR nightmare of keeping this years pick and giving us 2026 when they are even worse and we got a lottery pick from it, lol. |

Probably not a full "revamp", but other than Paranarin and JT Miller, I dont find their high paid forwards particularly strong like Zibanejad, Trocheck, Laf, Kreider, and Trocheck. Could they free up enough space to target a big fish like Marner in typical New York fashion?
On defense, I think Adam Fox is overrated, but he is solid enough. I like the K'Andre Miller. I wouldnt be opposed to going after him as a buy low option.
Their whole success is based on Igor playing well and staying healthy. Gambling with an unprotected first a full season out is a risk. I think that ultimately is what it comes down to. How willing are you to risk that everyone stays healthy, a new coach gels with the team quickly, and the guys perform how they should.

Yea giving a division rival a good pick is a disaster. I wonder if they knew the Canucks were going to flip the pick. As bad of a GM as Drury is, luckily he put that lottery protection in the trade. |

This would be the 3rd coach Drury fires in 4 year as GM, right? |

Speaking of next year's draft prospects, did anyone see McKenna's goal yesterday? My goodness, what wizardry.

I could withstand a terrible year next year for a chance to see that kid play in a pens sweater for 20 years…. |

It would be the smart thing to do. Not what they will do. And it would be sad to tank Malkin's presumably last season.
Not sure they'd get a top pick if the goaltending starts improving though. Defense is still a mess, forward might be OK if Malkin improves with better talent. |

They're a bit screwed either way. If they choose to keep the 2026 pick, it sends a bad message to the team and fanbase. |
