Just 'cos you asked, I figured I'd look. Here are the nominees, so to speak:
Duchene with 81 points in 81 games for Dallas @ $3m
Holloway signed as an RFA by St. Louis with 63 points in 77 games for $2.3m
Monahan with 54 points in 52 games for Columbus @ $5.5m
Lankinen with Vancouver, 50 games, .901, 2.64 for $875k
Stolarz with Toronto, 33 games, .924, 2.02 for $2.5m
Talbot with Detroit, 46 games, .902, 2.91
In terms of what Stolarz has brought, he's been exceptional night in and night out - but he has only played 34 games (including tonight).
Duchene, though, maybe doesn't quite count since he just resigned. . . .it wasn't like an acquisition that added to your team.
So Lankinen playing that well for 50 games in Vancouver is impressive. Holloway getting a chance in St. Louis and excelling with it has been a good story - and of course when healthy a motivated Sean Monahan has been inspirational. - Monkeypunk
I would say that Stolarz had been the most important to his team's potential chances of that UFA class.
Stolarz would be the biggest loss to his team of those guys imo, due to his position and the sheer weight of his stats at that position and before his signing, the Leafs' serious weakness at that position.
Duchene is great though. |

Just to throw around the Kool Aid here, what if Stolarz has a bona fide number one playoff, and has a few more years ahead of him. Hope hope |

Good to see them win a game in Buf and just crush a win to clinch and get it done. Traditionally our record in Buffalo is abysmal. |

Arguably the best duo in the league, both currently healthy and Stolarz is on pure fire going into the playoffs. |

This worries me. I always expect law of averages to catch up. Then again Sens have beaten us 3 times this year so...we're due too |

We are now.
Robertson has been terrible on the 4th. Seems to work a little better on the 3rd, match ups maybe?
Putting Max P and his heavy play on the 4th makes it a pretty threatening line with some offensive potential.
Just my 2 cents.

BUT.I.DON'T.GIVE.AF. Time to win in the playoffs!!! 16 MORE GAMES TO WIN. (after they snuff out Detroit)

Reading the term “(frank) Spatso” just made me crack another beer to watch Vegas Calgary start the 3rd and Kadri and Backlund tie the (frank)ing game in 1:04 (3-1 to 3-3)
Say that whenever the (frank) you want |

We never needed to. Also it's really not fair to depend on a guy who scored 40 plus goals and is second in the league in goals. Never carried the load so why bother. Better to pick game by game than a larger sample size. Also, (frank) the Sens. (frank) Spatos. #scoring the second most goals means nothing if you didn't impress in game 81 |

I wouldn't argue very vehemently against Stolarz' value; his limited number of games does suck - but I'd say you could probably credit him with adding 9 wins just on stolen games alone (single games with a GSAx of > 1.9 that the Leafs won was the rough criteria I used).
Not many guys make that degree of a contribution in so few games. We're very fortunate to have two guys who can both do this. |
