While distasteful, I think this paints the team in a more favorable light:

The NHL says the New York Rangers informed the league last year that they were looking into sexual assault allegations by a team employee against Artemi Panarin after a report detailing the situation and settlement payments made to the woman surfaced Thursday.

"The club retained an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation, which the league was fully apprised of," the NHL said in a statement. "We consider the matter closed."

The Athletic reported that Panarin and Madison Square Garden Sports, which owns the Rangers, paid financial settlements to a former team employee last year after she alleged Panarin sexually assaulted her during a road trip in December 2023.

According to The Athletic, Panarin allegedly took the woman's phone at a postgame gathering and said she could retrieve it by coming to his hotel room. When she went to his room, Panarin allegedly pinned her down on the bed before she was able to push him off, retrieve her phone and leave the room.

The woman, who reported her accusation against Panarin about three months later, left the Rangers in August after reaching settlements that included a nondisclosure agreement and no admission of wrongdoing by Panarin, The Athletic reported.

"The matter has been resolved," a spokesperson for MSG said in an emailed statement.

The woman also said "the matter has been resolved" in a statement to The Athletic.

A message sent to Panarin's agent was not immediately returned. Coach Peter Laviolette referred to MSG's statement when asked by reporters at the Rangers' morning skate before their season finale.

Panarin, a 33-year-old winger from Russia, was New York's leading scorer again this season and is wrapping up the sixth season of a seven-year, $81.5 million contract signed in 2019. On Wednesday, he was named the team's MVP for the second straight season.

The Associated Press and Field Level Media contributed to this report.

This doesnt paint the team in a favorable light. It says to me that the events did occur and they paid this woman off to go away. How it came to light now is irrelevant though.

The cover up didn’t happen here tho. The NHL was privy to the situation that occurred

I know that Brukie from Putnam wants this story to blow up because of Chris Drury. That’s what I learned today

I’m quite certain the woman at the center of this is not a happy camper today. Especially since everyone involved signed a NDA. Unless the reporter asked her permission which I find difficult to believe.

I’m with you a little on this. I’m not defending Panarin by any means, or the Rangers, but seems to me that Katie should be a little at fault here if she left the part out about the NHL knowing this happen already. Based on what Tommy posted, that was left out of her “exceptional reporting”. It’s a little bit more piling on the rangers and our “fans” eat that poop up

Key point in all this is that there was an investigation and there was a settlement. That certainly appears to imply some level of guilt associated with it because any time a payment is made, the immediate interpretation is that it was done due to guilt. Possible it was due to try and close the situation. Possible this person signed an NDA and now is reneging on it or information was provided to Katie Strang resulting in the column. Several loose ends but not ideal based on what we do know

With the way the season has unfolded and ended, your continued infatuation with Drury is insane. Even as positive as you are, you still cant be behind this clown.

The story was most likely leaked by another source. I highly doubt it was the victim. Im sure she wanted to move on with her life.

For 3 years you went on and on that this team can’t get it done. So this year, really after last season ended, Chris finally agreed with you and decided to blow up the team, more specifically the leadership of it. And you are still giving him hell this is quite confusing

He changing the team to more of a north south team and leaving the east west team in the dust. Y’all are just too damn stubborn to see it (the Drury haters) because we traded the Great Gazoo (Kaapo Kakko) and Victor Mancini

And yea. It cost them this year doing this drastic change over, but I do believe the track is right and I can see the vision you guys like to mock

Reneging on a signed sealed NDA is dangerous business. Not to make light of the situation, but just ask Stormy Daniels, I believe she owes Trump 300k plus court fees. All because she reneged on a signed NDA.

I do have to agree with you. I’m sad Panerin got caught up in something like this… people do stupid awful things and should be held accountable for their actions. I also know, on a documentary I’m directing, that NDA’s signed like this are a legit thing… and exposing it again like this has consequences to Panerin, the organization, and unfortunately the woman who decided to go back on the NDA. She choose to file accusations, there were investigations, she accepted the agreement, and signed the NDA. Perhaps there’s trauma (understandable) and feels there needs more justice and money won’t fix this and needs it to come out and is willing to give it all back. Which is why it’s coming out now.

In any event, this is all around sad for everyone involved and brutal end to this season.

Nobody has said who Katies source was, nobody knows if it was the victim or not. It could be anyone of the 7 players traded this season.
