Ya - especially when Stutzle was on the ice ...mostly against 34's line. They didn't get a tonne of high danger but they (and Sanderson) kept 34/16 from being dangerous at 5v5 most of the night.
Laughton's line might have been the best highlight. They went toe to toe with Cozens line all night and faired well.
JT's line looked better when they flipped Domi for Holmberg (small sample). Wonder if he'll stick with that. - The Law
Im glad Berube did that, the line was invisible with Domi

Question: Is the Leafs glass half full? Or half empty?
Half full?- The Core 4 recorded 9 points in Game #1
Half Empty?-The Core 4 only recorded 2 points at even strength, and both those points came on the same goal #LeafsVsSens #LeafsNation #Sens - gravyface
Meanwhile Ottawas top line had 0 points
the 5v5 talk is hilarious too. Sens turned it on a bit when the game was over. The narrative should be Ottawa is not good enough or experienced enough to play in close playoff games. |

Yeah and Domi's too much a liability in the top 6.
McMann Domi Robertson can be an effective line if we can get them out there with Tanev/McCabe and keep them away from the Sens' top 6. |

the PP needs to be a factor, past series they have been awful, tread water at evens and win the PP time. - senstroll
Ya last year Boston had the better penalty kill and powerplay in the series in a landslide. Leafs lost by 1 goal in game 7.
I think Ottawa outplayed them 5v5 last night but I think that’s good for the leafs. I think they should be able to take over 5v5 in this series. |

i think the opposite, we have seen this... as the series go longer, the penalties dry up and the 5v5 play is more important. - senstroll

uhhh ya totally...Love that the Leafs won the "expected goals" by a massive margin but lost game 1 5-1 to the Bruins. Ya. Sure matters a ton.
There will be games that the useless "deserve to win o meter" will be favoured for both sides. All that matters is wins. The team that wins the cup will win a lot of games that they didn't "deserve to win"
So sick of these charts being used. |

Domi continues to try to make every pass a highlight reel play. He’s trying poop where there’s nothing there. Berube needs to get him to simplify his game or sit him at some point. Can’t afford to make 3rd line scary in a bad way. |

I agree with that. I think that, at 5v5, our top 6 wasn't actually playing great. Domi had a few bad giveaways, Tavares and Nylander weren't clicking on passes, which was strange.
Bottom 6 was excellent though.
That 4th line?
 - gravyface
Matthews line was all over Brady ‘n Boys. Sens ran up shots partly because Stollie was giving up rebounds and Sens got in a few extra bangs. There was no point in that game where I was nervous about Leafs losing. Sens will be better next game c |

in Game 7 they had 1
Bruins won the 5v5 in gm 7...easily

These charts don't mean anything. They vary greatly through a run and a team will win the games they didn't "DeSeRvE tO wIN"
Leafs haven't won enough of those games over the years and its why they have been crap. They have won the 5v5 battle plenty....never the series. |

Nah lets look at a 5v5 chart that is severely screwed with variables when the game was over and garbage time came into play.
Leafs PP was lethal...If it was like this last year the Leafs would have beaten the Bruins. It all adds up into the score.
Which was a beating. Sens couldn't hang when it was tight. |

Were you there? Great night in the barn. Nice and loud ..even the sauv blanc drinkers in the lower bowl were partying.
I'm a planner so I like to dig behind the numbers a bit. A pretty quiet 5v5 night from 34/16 is only more reason to believe they'll be even better next game. We won't score 3 PP goals every night. Gotta get Domi off of JT's line to help them get going too.
Great goaltending from Stollie, stoic defending from all 6, elite skill in moments from the core 4, and some really good play from our "4th line".
I agree with Sensy ...the series is likely to grind down to a tight 5v5 battle.

The Leafs did "DeSeRvE tO wIN", according to MP..so I am not sure why you get upset
simply pointing out that the Leafs need to tidy up the 5v5 play..shouldnt trigger you. |

Tidbit ..Berube was able to really balance the minutes last night. Give the big boys some rest. None of the D played 20 mins ....Matty and JT with just 18ish. "4th line" with around 15 mins. Nice ... |

No one here is getting triggered. Just calling you out.
They won 6-2. End of story.
Get off the charts. Crazy how you haven't learned that they are useless yet with all the failed playoff series. |

Last night was family Easter dinner. Couldn't make rhe game.
Good to hear ACC was rocking, but I`m not surprised. It always is in the playoffs.
I explained the Lalime meltdown to my nephew last night, and he looked it up on YouTube. That was fun. |

Sens just took offensive zone penalties, which kills you every time.
I don't think the Sens can match up with 34 and JT down the middle. The Sens just aren't that good. The Leafs have 4 players who are better than the Sens best player. - Zezel
Great first game and agreed, the sens have some good players but none that much up to our top 4.
But its only game, they gotta do this 3 more times and hopefully 3 more times in the next 4 games. Dont let the sens get to a game 7.
Kill them early
One game down, three more to go. |

Sometime around game 78 or 79 Holmberg lost another offensive zone board battle and I almost posted how tired I was of watching Holmberg not win battles and just not doing anything providing a positive contribution - and then the next shift he just looked better and has in pretty much each shift since that moment. Like the last 4 or 5 games he's been much more effective; I hope he can maintain this level of play.

I think once the Leafs had it in hand it was easier to not play the big boys because it was obvious that Ottawa was trying to take cheap shots. I still can't believe that cross check to JT's head was reduced to a 2. The blatant hypocrisy is mindboggling.

It looked bad in the building. I saw it when i got home and it looked like he was going for the shoulder. Maybe a 4? I didn't hate it was a 2 given that the zebras were calling all the crosschecks on the numbers.
I hope Green keeps whining. Leafs are vets now ...that poop doesn't bother them.
McCabe and Tanev at the end of the game were the perfect example of that. |
