Sucks to let marner walk for nothing but I imagine they hope Easton cowen jumps straight to the nhl and hopefully mid season starts to pick it up. Saves 11m to round out the rest of the team.

Well they did try to trade him. They had a Marner-Rantanen trade in place with Carolina but Marner rejected it.

It's really only a loss if you can't get a replacement for him at a better value. They'd have to give up some assets, but heck, they could probably get Rackell and Ehlers for the same cap space as they would have been paying Marner.

And yeah, even moreso if Cowan can come in and be a productive player on his entry level contract.

This coach they hired just looks like he’s the opposite of fun at every party he’s ever been too. If your teams not going to be good have some (frank)ing fun out there.

Was never a fan of DeBoer, but what do I know. 5 teams liked him before not liking him. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

I'm disappointed Quinn left the Pens. He did a great job turning around our PP.

In his last eight years coaching he’s gone to the Confrence finals six times and has a Stanley cup appearance (against us and that team wasn’t losing). He’s very obviously good but just hasn’t gotten over the hump

Yeah, if he doesnt pull Oettenger he still has a job. Its funny, he does the right things (sitting a goalie that has not played well) but still loses his job because he hurt some feelings.

I think Dallas is going to regret this. I don't know who is better that they are going to bring in?

Young players (Johnson, Heiskanen, Robertson) have taken massive leaps under him and they have been incredibly successful turning Duchene and Benn around again late in their careers. The more I think about it, the more I am mad that we didnt wait and end up with him. He had done a hell of a job with Dallas.

Dallas is a good fun team with an almost perfect mix of youth and vets. They ran into high end star power that really wants it for legacy reasons. I think this is a very bad decision

It definitely wasn’t just the goalie pull and those comments after I can say that for sure.
Sounds like the players got him fired. Like 10 or more of the players including Benn.
Again same thing as Vegas. Remember the picture of the knife in the back of Fleury sent out by Fleurys own agent? Agents don’t do that unless the player knew it was being sent out.
Coaches call out players literally every second or third game in the rooms but to do it constantly to the media… that’s never gonna fly.
He’s been fired like 5 times in 15 years and it sounds like things were extremely bad at the end of the year to the point were some team leaders wouldn’t even talk to him. I think they lost there last 8 regular season games….

That’s fair. Just like in any other industry if you’re impossible to work with it doesn’t really matter if you’re great at your job, no one’s gonna work with you

Jeez you need your coach to have a Brazilian butt lift and Double D’s?

I couldn’t possibly care less about what they look like.

Well one guy slugged it out in juniors and the minors for years. One guy played D3 hockey. Tell me there isn’t a character difference there.

So for anyone who didn't see it tonight because it wasn't widely covered, Dubas said they expect Ponomarov to go to the KHL. He apparently wasn't staying unless guaranteed an NHL spot.

No I don’t think one guy being an inherently better hockey player than another guy is indicative of character. Some pretty great people out in this world that have never even played hockey! Wild!

He's no longer waiver exempt...right? Honestly, it probably works in our favor. We keep his rights and he develops over there. He was no lock to make the roster. He's done nothing to earn a guarantee.

He seemed to be a good AHLer but the previous staff didn’t seem to have any interest in him whatsoever as an NHLer. Would have liked to see the new coaches get a fresh set of eyes on him but agree that if he were really any good he would have given Dubas no choice but to call him up. He didn’t.

Working your way up from a D3 hockey player to an NHL head coach probably takes some character. I can't imagine doors opened quickly for him.
