We see what Cam Fowler is doing right now (along with the Hutson Bros) and we want another McIlrath type prospect?
Set the franchise back another 5 years why don't we. - newenglandpuck
I really dont see Chris Drury drafting a project defenseman if they choose to keep this years first rounder
job on the line despite the extension, I see him taking a player who can help quick |

The hope now is that management is in sync with the style of play desired and type of players needed. Clearly a good relationship exists between Sullivan and Drury. Now the system needs to be enforced and utilized. - airjan23
Thats the key. It seems like the Rangers are giving Sullivan the richest coaching contract in the history of the NHL. If you make that big of investment in your coach, but dont give him the pieces to work with, why bother hiring him?
This was always the best case scenario for the Rangers, despite me being okay with the Penguins moving on from Sullivan, the Rangers benefitting is why i hate it.
Drury needs to move some players this summer that dont fit with Sully before Sully exposes them and their trade value drops. |

you gonna get a lot of Mcilrath comparisons if they take a huge defensive defenseman at 11th overall
but, personally, Im not saying that would be the wrong thing to do - jimbro83
Have to assume Rangers keep the pick regardless now with Sullivan hired. Would be a bad optic to give it up.
I’m excited and a little scared to see what goes down this offseason. |

The best solution to this is to just give the 11th pick to the Penguins.

Rangers have to be good next year, giving up the 11th overall pick this year says "we expect to be worse next year"
no way |

What are the odds Sid has an epiphany this summer and wants to be a Ranger, with Sully?
That would be wild |

...which means you expect the team under Sullivan to be better and Pittsburgh will have no shot at a lottery pick..... |

Probably not anyone's top choice, but this is who I want, for purely selfish reasons:
No. 18: Cameron Reid, D, 6-feet, 193 pounds, Kitchener Rangers (OHL)
NHL Projection: Top-four defenceman. Two-way/transitional. Power play quarterback.
Reid is compact in stature, but plenty strong in the trenches. He doesn’t shy away from physical contact, but his most elite element is his skating ability. Reid has the agility and explosiveness to close on opponents defensively and spin off checks to launch the attack offensively. He walks the offensive blue line with purpose as the power play quarterback in Kitchener and produced 14G-40A in the regular season. Reid is deployed in all situations for the Rangers. He averages north of 24 minutes per game TOI.
So, trading down would be fine by me.
As I've mentioned before, this is the son of a guy I grew up with. His uncle told me yesterday that he's gone anywhere from 6th to 20th in different mock drafts.

I think its more likely Sullivan starts seeing some of the stars/leaders he is dealing with in New York and wants to come back to the Penguins with Crosby.
If he did have an urge to go somewhere, itd be with MacKinnon |

I wouldnt want an unprotected 1st round pick out in the wild next season with a generational talent at the top of the lottery. One big injury to Igor and you are watching the Pittsburgh Penguins win the lottery to draft their next superstar with your pick.
If the pick is 1-3 or 11, I think there's little to no chance they give it up. But if its 12 or 13, i think they have to serious consider it given the strength in draft class next season and having that pick as leverage for trades next season if you guys are a playoff caliber team. |

why give up 12 and 13 but not 11? |

Youre right, its weird, and maybe Im just crazy, but I think a lot of people equate 11 with early 1st round pick and 12/13 more so with mid 1st round pick.

Sounds like a great player!
Don’t hate the idea of trading down for a guy like that to get a late 2nd or early 3rd. Hopefully a lefty |

That’s the only justifiable argument for trading this years pick IMO. |

It would make no sense for Sullivan to bring in Torts.
I wonder if Sullivan will ask for David Quinn from the Penguins if he doesnt get the head coach job with Pittsburgh. He is the only assistant coach under contract with the Penguins.
EDIT: forgot David Quinn used to be the head coach with the Rangers. Wonder if that would influence his decision. Not often a former head coach comes back as an asisstant with the same team after only a few years. |

I think it’s wait and see. Torts is going to want a head coaching job. If he gets shut out maybe he changes his mind and joins Sullivan. But we won’t know for a bit |
