You dont think Toronto is going to match that? Come on. - aecliptic
They could afford to match 6.8? Ok no problem, go sign Marner for free bc that means he’s 100% gone. |

They have plenty of cap space to sign Marner to a 13m contract and resign Knies to a 6.8m contract. The wild card is Tavares. |

If it’s between the 3, I’d assume 35 year old Tavares is the odd man out. He could become a great 2C pickup for us though, he can still play. But I wouldn’t want more than a 2-3 year deal for him. |

I wonder if TOR would take 11 OA+ for Knies. |

Highly, highly, highly doubtful. Especially if Knies has a big series against Florida. |

Ya, I think they’ll let Marner and Tavares go and have plenty of cap space. Was fun to think about for a night haha. |

I still don't understand how they let Marner go and become a better team with whatever they replace that cap hit with. He's over a ppg this playoffs and is basically a ppg in his career in the playoffs. Better numbers than Matthews and Nylander |

Leaf fans feel about Marner pretty much the same way we do about Panarin. There could be interesting some interesting developments there. |

It’s not about how many points u can put up come playoff time. TOR is the PERFECT example of that. You don’t need 4 separate PPG players to win in the playoffs, as clearly shown by TOR.
Get your 1 or 2 PPG players and build around them with quality middle/bottom 6. That’s how you have success in the playoffs. Paying 4 guys $10 million+ doesn’t leave much for the rest of the roster. |

Since Berube got there, Marner has been playing on the PK, and has been fine. Almost like when Kovalchuk went to the Devils and he was forced to backcheck or not play. |

This difference this year, as opposed to years previous is they have good defense on all 3 pairs and a goalie thats playing well. |

Fair enough. But, I'm telling you they (the fans) have been burned enough times that this is not necessarily making enough of a difference. If they don't achieve significantly more success than they have in the past, radical change my be coming their way. |

They got some older, gritty vets for defense, Tanev, McCabe, Benoit, OEL and Rielly is very good. Carlo was a great addition, but are they good enough? We’ll see. They built a cheap tough defense though, that’s for sure. |

They should have Mathews, and im assuming Nylander as their 2 PPG guys and build around them. They have a gem in Knies as well. Use the money saved from Tavares and Marner and build a very good middle/bottom 6. |

If that kid Isaac Howard is as good as what his numbers in college show, Toronto should be a team ringing the phone. Outside of Knies, they have no one on the left side.
Tavares, I think, will do what Pavelski did for the Stars and give a discount... 5m, maybe 6m per. Look at Duchene's contract. These vets are taking less to stay with teams they want to play for.
As Ive said before, if Toronto makes Marner available, Id be on the phone with Panarin. Its the only way Id trade Panarin prior to season start. |

It was a huge issue and they did good to address it.
Everyone here focuses on getting younger and stuff, and Im of the belief that we got plenty of young kids... what we need are grizzled, gritty, pissed off vets hungry for a Stanley Cup chase. |

The top 9 is mostly on the wrong side of 30. The defense is relatively young |

It doesnt make them useless, just means time is not on our side with those guys. If youre trying to win right now, saying that players are 32 years old is pointless. 32 is plenty capable of being productive, the problem is a mentality thing. Lets take Tom Wilson, who is 31, do you care that hes 31? No, you dont, because he embodies the heart, soul and mentality of a guy you want on your team.
Everyone is always so obsessed and fascinated about whats gonna be in 7 years, and seem to forget about tomorrow. |

No i just don't like having too many important players who are entering that phase where they start to break down. A la Kreider. I'm not thinking about 7 years from now. |

Kreider can go, Cuylle is a better version of Kreider. With Kreider here Cuylle will always have to look over his shoulder, even though he shouldnt and CK should be stapled to the 3rd line. However, we also need that 6.5m to extend Cuylle and sign defenseman. |

Suppose they find a deal for Panarin (potentially with retention to maximize return). Keep Kreider and sign Cuylle and find defenseman
LWs- Cuylle othmann Kreider, Edstrom
Imo and I’ve said it, best thing for the rangers is trading Panarin. Moving on from his era. Some of it is the scandal, but some of it is Sullivan. I don’t think he and Sullivan will be a good match.
Idk how that happens tho, seems like a lot of hurdles. But Drury gets around hurdles so maybe it happens. Man clearing all 11.5 is it? of Breadman would be really helpful |

I don’t think he means to trade him there. He means to get him to waive so we can trade him elsewhere and sign Marner for free. |

Youre not replacing the 100 points that Panarin puts up with Othmann and Edstrom... hell the entire bottom 6 combined wont score 100 points. |
