Maybe with sully gone we can draft Brady Martin a touch early with our pick! I’m assuming we hear about the rangers draft pick tonight? I imagine we are getting this years. - 10inchTerror
The Rags have until 48 hours before the draft I believe to tell us what they're doing, so they don't need to tell us any time soon. (Though perhaps they will choose to.) |

Yeah we won't find out until before the draft but I'm pretty sure they are going to keep this pick, and expect to be a playoff team under Sully therefore giving us the lower pick.

A that would make sense. I was thinking they wouldn’t risk the chance of losing out on McKenna just incase. But yeah I’m sure they won’t have a mid season internal falling apart again. I’m sure sully will also have a decent first season. |

Agree feels likely with Sully. Too bad, would have been nice for their time line to get an extra pick now that's pretty high for a rental trade. |

Interesting. On my own list, he's probably around 13 so he wouldn't be my pick, but not someone I'd be too upset about, although that depends on if someone like Desnoyers, Eklund, or McQueen is there. Even then though I prefer O'Brien, or one of the top defenseman after Schaefer. |

Obrien seems to have jumped up the rankings a fair bit. Surprisingly I see Martone getting lower and lower. I do see taking Brady Martin as a slight reach but I just love his play style. I think if we could have ended up just 4 points lower we would have been in a real good spot. Anaheim is pretty reliable for picking way off the board haha |

There is no path to us getting the Rangers 1st pick tonight. The worst they can do is 13th, which is what they protected it against.
Maybe the Rangers fall to 12 or 13 and decide they want to give us the pick, but I don't believe they have to do that until like 2 days before the draft... so strategically speaking they are very unlikely to do so.
I would expect the Rangers will see what they can get for the pick in a trade to improve their team this year. They are going to make a lot of big moves this offseason and its possible they attach that first to Zib in a big trade. |

Martone is an interesting one. He might end up being the best player in the draft or he might end up a total bust. I think him dropping down in the rankings could be posturing by some teams.
Schaeffer is #1. The injury this year hurts his development, but his skill set is on another level from every other prospect.
I still think the top 4 are Schaeffer, Martone, Misa and Hagens.
Top 4
1. Schaeffer
2. Misa
3. Martone
4. Hagens
If we land outside the top 4 (likely) I like the rest in the order below. IMO, Jackson Smith could turn into a stud LD. Doesn't quite have the magic of Schaeffer but he has some serious wheels and hands. To me, it looks like there are two further groups of players. Smith/Eklund/Frondell all could end up being studs, would love to get any of them.
Smith
Eklund
Frondell
I think Denoyers/Obrien/McQueen are a clear step below the last 3. They all look like Brayden Yager caliber prospects... so in a good draft year, probably a mid teen pick. Could still turn into a good hockey player, but damn, sucks to throw away a season and one of these guys are the best you can get.

I have O'Brien in that 9-11 range but I can see any of those guys moving up. Which would be great if someone I liked more slid to the Pens.
I do like Martin's style, just worried he might end up more of a high end 3C, and I think there are 11 or 12 guys I see with a better chance to be top half players. If they get the Rangers pick he's a little more interesting to me there. |

I'd say this draft is low on high end skill. What it has is a lot of guys who are advanced defensive players that put up good numbers, but scouts are worried how much of that skill will translate. Heil floor low ceiling guys. So Pens aren't getting the next franchise guy, maybe not even a PP1 guy, but hopefully find a strong 2 way player for the top half of the lineup.
I like your list overall. I'd almost move Frindell into the top group, or at least in the no way he's there at #9. Anyone else I could see available.
My personal tiers:
Will be gone almost certainly: Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Martrone, Frondell
Hope one drops: Desnoyers, Eklund, McQueen (if medicals are good)
Good pick where we are: O'Brien, Smith, Mrtka
Slight reach: Bear, Martin
Would love that Rangers pick to snag a center and a defenseman. |

Nice so we fall to 11. Stupid islanders.
Didn’t realize it was just the draft order today. I thought it was the whole draft. Oh well |

That was a roller coaster that ended in the absolute worst way. |

That new draft lottery system might be the dumbest system ever. No idea what the purpose was to switch it. If it was to prevent people from thinking they rigged it, I think it will have the opposite effect.
That win streak killed us. Ironically, if we had gotten 3 more points, we would've had the Islanders spot and gotten #1, but to fall from what seemed like a top 5 pick a few months ago to #11 is tough. |

On top of that, the rangers moved back too, making it more likely we get this years pick instead of a lottery ticket for next year. This was definitely the worst case scenario. |

Per Marshall - falling from 9 to 11 isnt a back breaker. There will still be one or two good options at 11. there is no cliff from 9 to 11.
Still sucks, especially when we went from an 18% chance at #1 to #11.
At least the Flyers or Rangers didnt get it. |

Yea, I am really mixed on whether I want the Rangers pick. On one hand, we need the prospects, and the pick could easily be 20+ next year. On the other hand, when you have a generational talent, you might want the extra odds in the event the Rangers struggle again. |

Cool! We will see our number one draft pick in 3 to 5 years after Crosby retires. |

Isn’t one of them a 6’6” defenseman? Take that one. |

Ouch that hurts. I'd have a similar player at 9 and 11, but less chance someone falls. Not even as excited to potentially get the Rangers pick now though because I do see a bit of a drop after 11. |

I agree with Marshall. The problems are:
1) less chance of someone from a higher tier sliding
2) don't get your pick of this tier if the scouts value someone else more
I'd be looking to trade up if possible |

I agree 100%. With all of the picks we have, trying to draft guys with all of them make no sense.
trade some of those picks to move up and get the guy you want and/or trade for prospects more NHL ready that teams arent going to sign like Howard from TB.

Mrtka is big but not super physical.
You will want Kashawn Aitcheson. He is a destroyer on D. Would be a reach at 11.
I'd be super cool with trading down with Montreal to pick up Mailloux.
#11 and one of our 2nds for #17 & Mailloux. We draft Aitcheson and pair him with Mailloux long term... That would be killer.
Similar with Vancouver and Willander might make sense. |
