Maybe it is just past truama.. But I feel like we just lost the series - Azuredoom
It's just so depressing watching this team come out so (frank)ing flat.
It's pretty clear Matthews is dealing with something very serious. Sure he took a puck to the hand tonight, but he is NOT the same guy this year - something is seriously wrong with him. Granted, he's never had particular success in the playoffs, but he's been practically invisible.
To be honest, I'm kind of rooting for the Sens to push the Leafs to Game 7. If they win, good on them - if the Leafs win, maybe they get their mojo back.
Suffice it to say, this team does look defeated. |

I think they look scared Jones. One of the dead give aways was the fanned shots in the first few minutes and the inability of players (like Nylander!?) to even hold on to the puck.
They never looked like they were trying to attack the game and win. They looked like they were playing not to lose. |

PP never been good, but they had a lot of good bounces going their way in the first 3 games. - alex.TML
It worked in the first 3 games just fine.
They got 5 shots on the 1st PP tonight.
But Savard is a garbage PP coach if he can't sort this out with this many weapons. |

He is no better than Marner over all the failures. He has not been injured all that time.
I am a little concerned about the injury prone thing. He hasn't looked right all year.
What UFA's do you think really help with what you have left in cap after you let Marner walk and sign the other guys you need to sign. ( I haven't looked at the UFA crop) - Interloper
Kucherov 121P $9.5 million
MacKinnon 118P $12.6 million
Draisaitl 106P $14 million (overpaid lol)
Pastrnak 106P $11.25 million
Marner 102P $?
He’s worth $12 mill tops |

They moved the puck so slow. When they were successful, they were moving the puck fast.
If I am the coaching staff and I see them move it that slow, I pull them off the ice. They never score like that. - Archaic
The 1st PP they had worked well despite not getting results with a lot of shots.
But maybe it's time to pull one forward off the PP and let OEL fire some pucks. |

and that is definitely a problem. He is not worth more than those guys but they'll play the "percentage of cap" game and he will command more.
I was wondering what free agents are out there this year?

I mean, you could try anything. I just see a noticeable difference between when the PP was sucessful earlier in the series and now. They were moving the puck quickly, now they are back to slowly passing it around the permeter. I feel like they need to get back to quick passes and not giving the defense time to set up.
But id try anything at this point. |

100%. Marner's going to be asking for stupid money again and at this point, I'd rather spend 8M on a center and another 5M on a 2/3 winger who can bang in the playoffs and will drive the net. - gravyface

Interesting player. Certainly a player you would take a good look at but he will be overpaid.
The problem with free agency (Marner included) is that they almost always get overpaid, big. |

Sam Bennett also. Marner, Tavares out.....Bennett and Boezer in. You'd save money to pay Knies long term.

Notice what I said about Draisaitl’s contract?
At least he’s a C, makes him worth about a 5th more

No idea if that makes the team better, but at least it will be changed.
After so many years of this, I would really like to see scorched earth and they start all over. I think none of the core is capable of winning and I would rather at least cheer for a young team again with some hope, instead of knowing the failure is going to continue. |

How long can you keep the "Marner is the best player in the league" schtick up.
Seriously, you don't see any issue with his play or the contract him and Paul are going to be trying to rape the Leafs for???
Come on AA, FFS, just a tiny bit of reality in your posts would go a long way.

Once in awhile teams have to say “(frank) it don’t sign him” and that hasn’t happened in a long ass time.
Maybe it needs to start to happen again. They have a couple non physical kids who could step in at a FAR cheaper price. And with Matthews and Knies as linemates? Physicality is not a concern. |

He’s not the best player in the league. Not even close.
He’s the best player on the team tho. By far the most rounded player.
Also, I say a lot of normal things. I tone it down and try to have normal chit chat but you guys don’t care. You’s don’t want that. |

Brock Boeser is a horribly inconsistent, one-way player. His playoff resume isn't that impressive either seeing as he usually misses the playoffs. He is nowhere near any type of physical, warrior type player. You're basically adding a worse version of Nylander.
Why would Sam Bennett leave Florida for Toronto?
Also, what's he going to look like playing without Barkov and Tkachuk from 30-37?
I loved the idea of Sam Bennett as a "buy low" option for the Leafs when he was stuck on Calgary. But as a UFA soon to be on the wrong side of 30, you're going to be overpaying to sign Bennett when his best years are probably behind him.
Letting Tavares go makes perfect sense because of his age but I'd love to know the last team that let their top point scorer go as a UFA under 30 and then won a Cup because of it afterward. |
