They already jumped the shark. I'm sure it will be well acted and shot, but the story is done and season 3 was really stupid if you have any idea about sports as a concept, let alone soccer.

He is a generational goal scorer, could literally be the highest scoring player ever. Sure, the results haven't been there in the playoffs, but I think the Leafs can build a better team around him to bring success. Knies is the perfect player to play with Matthews, and while Mitchy has the fancy dangles and amazing passes, he doesn't grind for the puck or create space for Matthews. Maybe there is a better option out there?

Talk of letting Marner go is a little crazy. Talk of trading Matthews is pure insanity.

- Whipper

Cap will need to go up by $50M so they can buy a better team and not have to rely on Matthews. Auston can play pressure free, score a million reg season goals and focus on his hair.

Like i said, hes great in the reg season, no question. The past 9 years have shown he mostly disappears when it counts. Hoping that changes.
We'll see.
Dont want either to go, but we need playoff performers.

- Fakepartofme

Who do you think is more likely to be a playoff performer? Matthews is likely dealing with some kind of issue, (all damn season), but he's still out there throwing the body and winning puck battles. How many posts has he hit so far?!? His shot is off, but if it was dialed in he could have 3, 4, 5 goals.

Mitchy-poo has avoided physical contact at all costs. There was a play a few games ago where the Leafs shot the puck into the O-zone and Marner was the first one in the zone. He checked up and floated in the slot, while Knies flew past him and went after the puck. Now, admittedly, I don't know the intricacies of hockey positioning or how Berube draws up offensive zone pressure, but it just stuck me as Marner basically thinking, "well, I don't want to go into the corner and risk getting hit."

Sorry why is the future matthews?
Hes great in the reg season, but isnt very good come playoff time
1 goal this series
1 goal vs boston
0 goals vs Florida
So like 2 goals in the last 14 playoff games

Did very well in the last tampa series but vasy was a hot mess, almost every leaf did well.
4 goals vs tampa in 21/22...thats good.
1 goal vs montreal

Not good enough for the highest paid player in the league imo.

- Fakepartofme

I just don't understand how people ignore those stats. Too many people assesses him on what they want him to be, and not what he actually is.

They were an inch away from winning yesterday.

I was heartbroken for Wild fans when they called the offside after review.

If the Leafs lose this round, I would think every single Leaf would be willing to waive their NTC’s just to get the (frank) out of here.

But, they’re not going to lose this round.

Is it though? Unless the Leafs go on a VERY deep run and prove that the strategy of having that much of your cap tied up in 4 forwards and one D man can pay off and deliver more than what it has (1 series win in 8 years) how can they not look at having to part ways with Marner and maybe JT too?

The folks here who are saying "Trade Reilly, Trade Willy, Trade Matthews" & pretending these guys with full no trade clauses are going to waive them are fooling themselves or playing a hockey video game in GM mode.

Willy loves Toronto and isn't leaving during this contract full stop. Get used to it and move on.

None of the other guys are likely to waive so the 2 guys who eat up big chunks of the cap space are Marner and JT who are UFA's so those are the only pieces you can likely move to create that flexibility needed to make big changes and hopefully change the culture, & attitude of this team and hopefully find more post season success.

Marner is an incredible player but saying things like you have to keep all your best players all the time is shortsighted and a sure fire way to have them continue to deliver that they have shown they can - which isn't enough.

"The Leafs are doomed without Marner nor would they make the playoffs" - that's just a joke to even think never mind type.

Are they better or worse without Marner? That depends entirely on what they bring in with the flexibility they gain by allowing him to walk IMO.

Berube calling out the 1st line (rightfully so) after last night. I hope that inspires them but who knows really.

Didn't see the Berube comments but someone needs to sure light a fire under their ass. Enough is enough, either you decide to give a poop and play like your salaries or just F-off.

Yes, but that comes at the expense of Tavares and Rielly. Not the current leading scorer of the team who also makes the captain better.

NMC, was never gonna happen.

Don't think this was real either.

Name me the team that won a Cup that let their leading scorer go as a UFA.

- Rare_Jewel

Wait so Marner was never going to be moved because he has a NMC but Reilly who also has a NMC will be easily moved.

Ya that makes perfect sense.

That's my favorite part about a lot of proposals around here to improve this team. No regard for what the current contract landscape looks like, simply moving contracts in and out like there are no other considerations
