Canucks are gonna have to take some swings this off-season, take on one or two high-risk/low value players like Washington did with PLD, coupled with a major trade for a top 6 center... so:
DeBrusk - Larkin - Sherwood
Zegras - Petey - Lekker
Joshua - Suter - Garland
DOC - Blueger - Hoglander
Wonder what it would take for Larkin to leave Detroit, at least Chytil + this years 1st.
Zegras would be a good target if the Canucks think they can round out his game. Maybe his skill will work with Petey like Kuzy did.
Right side is very weak still, but that "first" line could be annoying to play against. |

I don't think Vancouver is the destination to round out one's game. Leaving Vancouver is. |

This. Our organization is a dumpster fire from top to bottom sadly. We just had a Jack Adams coach leave who is aparently interviewing in Seattle and anaheim. If that doesn't say I don't believe this team can win nothing does.
Chytil and the 15th shouldn't even sniff Larkin. |

They're more than likely going to need to take someone like that on. Low(er) cost and high(er) upside if they can piece it together. |

The first step in solving a problem is admitting that there is one. Until that comes to pass in Vancouver, they will continue to step over themselves making the same mistakes that we've seen for the past decade. It starts with ownership, until that changes, this franchise is destined to continue to fail. |

I have no idea what Larkin would be worth, but apparently there's some tension between him and the Red Wings. He has a full NTC so he'd have to waive to go.

See how the day unfolds, but indications are Joel Quenneville is going to be the next head coach in Anaheim. Suggestion of an announcement today.
Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger
Announcement coming shortly. Sources say the Ducks did an extensive background check specific to the Kyle Beach case, including the work Quenneville has done to reform from mistakes made during that time. He was the first candidate Anaheim spoke with after firing Cronin. |

He shouldn't be allowed to coach in the NHL again. |

I do think he's a nice player and would be a good 2 c. I have a feeling of he were available tons of teams would want him. Would Willander Chytil and the 15th be enough in a bidding war? I doubt it and I think Stevie Y needs to win now. If they said we'll give you Larkin and we want Petey but with salary retention would you do it? Essentially turn Larkin into the 11.6 player |

Yup I was there, voice went hoarse from cheering so much.
The game was a bit disjointed in the 1st, Canucks had like 5 shots on net and the 1st shot came at 15mins into the period, Smith got his rebound to score on 2nd shot, 2nd goal came in the last minute of the 1st. 2nd was much better offensively but CV was winning most board battles but Silovs played great shots were now 20 CV, Abby 14. 3rd period was fast and end to end rushes more frequent but just couldn’t get that pass to settle for a tip in, but the Canucks were the better team despite giving up an early goal, some tense moments but was great to see them play strong in front of the net.
The team needs to come out much faster on Friday, CV is in an elimination game and will be wanting to push hard. - Makita
Thanks for posting this. The atmosphere seemed great from what I was watching. Are you going Friday as well? |

I wouldn't trade Petey. Canucks need more impact players and that's his potential.
I wouldn't want to add Willander with Chytil. But assume it would take something like that to make it work. |

This team needs to pick a direction and run with it, no more of this weakening of 1 position, to strengthen another one. Mind you, it is a great formula for mediocrity. |

There's a fair amount of crossover between the people who say nobody wants to play in Vancouver and the people who say we should trade away the star players we have that keep saying they want to be here |

He's a cancer and is a shell of the player he was projected to be since his broken ankle and torn meniscus - plus he's softer than Danton Heinen eating a snickers bar thats been on the dashboard of your car on a sunny California afternoon in August. Plus his contract is horrific, even if its only for another year.
I'll say it again, I'd aim for signing Duchene (2C), then try to trade for Alex Tuch (1RW) and sign Yanni Gourde as your 3C.
I'd dangle Demko, Lekkermaki, Dak, Hogs, Mynio, & Kudryatsav as trade bait.
Under no circumstance would I trade anymore 1st or 2nds - EVER! |

I hate to say it, but i would get ready for draft picks getting dealt. I would even say Wallinder, even thougb i dont want to see either go. |

I really hope not but you're probably right based on mgmts moves recently. I don't like that they're following the Benning-esque era/decisions like constantly dumping prospects and picks to fill gaps. Its not working.
I'd like to try a different strategy like consistently trying to acquire picks, no matter where they are in the standings. I envy the Carolina model and I think its directly related to their consistent success. Their prospect pipe-line is loaded with potential difference makers at all positions and it allows them to trade from a position of power without giving away picks.
I think there are options like this for us this summer without trading picks. IF they did trade away the 1st - the player coming has to be a home run, not a reclamation project, preferably on a decent contract. |
|
|
|
I think we see management swapping some youth for youth, as an example, Willander for Conor Geekie, again this is just an example of what I think they may do. |

Washington took chances on PLD and Chychurn who were both labeled as cancers/difficult players. Bought them for cheap and they've been able to turn them around. Not saying it always works, but for the Canucks to hit some homeruns without selling every single thing, they gotta try and find value in those high-end reclamation projects. |
