If you guys are trading Hughes, Devils aren't even close to the best option. As a centre is needed, maybe some type of deal with Columbus is a better option, they have 2 1st and a nice young prospect centre in Cayden Lindstrom.
Just using CBJ as an example, as Devils aren't the only team out there

Agree but CBJ would need him to resign & that would drop the offer. NJD seems most logical maybe not the best.

Sell him to the highest bidder, but it'd be harder for a team to trade for him if they know he's gone in two years.

I think a team trying to get past the 2nd round of the playoffs, like the Leafs, would be happy to have him for 2 years.

Every team in the league would be ecstatic to have Hughes for two years. Just depends on what they're willing or not willing give up to get him for that time frame.

It appears that the Canucks have put themselves in a bad situation. Do you hold onto him and hope things work out, or do you move him sooner rather than later?

This year really (frank)ed them on a number of fronts.

I don't know enough about the behind-the-scenes situation to appropriately know, but it all boils down to Quinn's desire to stay.

0-40% = trade him this offseason, maximize return
40-70% = wait and see, if this season goes down the drain look at trading him at the TDL
70-100% = build out the team this year, revisit it after next season is over

That’s what it comes down to. Unless NJD steps up for their window as well.

I’d guess talking to Hughes internally will decide which way it goes. He should be included in the convo for what JR/PA plan on doing going forward. I wonder how much of that convo surrounds EP & the fallout of moving Miller? Boeser maybe maybe not idk.

On the 0-40% I’d think the Canucks might pass on it & risk it in the hope they can come out strong to start the season. So Canuck lol

40-70% TDL looks like less good roster players in return from a PO push team.

70-100% most likely hoping for a bigger bidding war or extract more value from NJD in the hope they still need to shake it up.

I could change my opinions any minute lol

Thoughts?

https://thehockeywriters....ft-target-braeden-cootes/

Personally not excited about this draft other than we have a 1st & 2nd & all the other rounds. Not a deep draft going by the pundits but we can land a C & all are not big.

Your pick if a C?

Yes, I am sure that talking to a star player is the best way to go. Maybe they should just name the star player coach and GM, just like they did back in the 1920's

Lol you know what I was getting at.
If JR/PA are certain on where Hughes stands in the future if he stays or is gone will be known in not too long. Trades & UFA’s being my 1st indicator.

A good laugh over this. Playing down Hughes & quoting Brooks lol

If NJD ever were to get Hughes they will heavy for an elite D in Hughes.

I found it funny that he only called Hughes a quality player. He is easily the 2nd best dman in the world, and Makar really isn't much better than him, if he is at all. the 3rd best dman isn't even close to Hughes and Makar.
