I doubt they had many options beyond Malhotra & Foote. No NHL experienced coach would want to take on Pouty and the Train Wrecks.
- Danny Bomber

This Petey choice clearly came from up top, didn't sit well with the dressing room. I have no issues with trading Miller, even for our return.

you think Allvin runs this team, that's cute.

Perhaps that’s the problem. No one respects a straw boss.

Interesting. Brings continuity. Wonder how much Quinn swung that.

Also wonder where that leaves Manny... he seems like a good coach, needs more seasoning but maybe he'll get poached

- NewYorkNuck

Eww, careful now, that “whatever” (said in my south cali teenage girl voice) guy will have a smartass comment about captain, coach, GM bullpoop.

👍🏻👍🏻

Wonder if he’s trade bait?

- Nighthawk

I don’t think so, heard that he might make the team without going to the AHL.

WTF is Alvin doing? Foote as coach was only made to appease Hughes. Zero experience as a professional head coach, he was a terrible head coach for the Kelowna Rockets, all 60 games or so. Get a new voice in that dressing room. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Bye bye Manny!
- K-man25

Bit of a drama queen response…no?

That Kelowna Rockets team was talentless crap.

Really? Which part?
No professional head coach experience?
Crappy coach for the Rockets?
Decision was made to appease Hughes?
New voice in the dressing room?
Bye bye Manny?
Alvin’s a dope?

I’d be interested in why you think Foote is the best choice.

Really? Which part? All
No professional head coach experience? So? St.Louis - zero experience in general. Brind Amour - zero before becoming HC.
Crappy coach for the Rockets? His record was 29-28
Decision was made to appease Hughes? Good - thats smart, appease your franchise captain - make him involved in the decision.
New voice in the dressing room? There still can be depending on who else they add
Bye bye Manny? Not necessarily
Alvin’s a dope? So are you??

I’d be interested in why you think Foote is the best choice.

Maybe he was the Best available choice. He's won 2 cups, memorial cup as a player, Olympic gold, world cup, played over 1000 games = knows what it takes to win. I'd rather his knowledge and experience, than an extra few years of HC exp. on a resume.

Glad I didn't respond when I 1st saw that comment you quoted, as I was going to mention how I thought Hughes is also taken over for Paolo on the ownership group, plus, the way they are handing out bans these days, not worth a smart-ass comment.

Willander 500k performance bonuses
- Nighthawk

"The main point of contention in Willander’s ELC negotiations was Schedule A performance bonuses. The Canucks had an internal structure for ELC bonuses that was below market value, and management seemed to be stubbornly sticking to that.

Vancouver caved to some extent. According to PuckPedia, Willander has $500,000 worth of possible Schedule A bonuses in Year 1, $900,000 in Year 2 and $1 million in Year 3. That’s a significant step up compared to Jonathan Lekkerimäki, whose possible Schedule A bonuses were worth $475,000 across each of the three years on his ELC.

Willander will be a legitimate contender to win an NHL roster spot out of training camp next season. He plays a remarkably polished, efficient two-way game that leans more toward the defensive side. Willander was effective but a little raw and occasionally mistake-prone during his freshman NCAA season, but his second year with the Terriers was a key step forward, even if the offensive point totals don’t reflect growth. The big-bodied, smooth-skating defender excelled as a go-to shutdown option, logging huge minutes in all situations. He had nothing to gain from returning to BU for a third season.

The Abbotsford Canucks are about to begin the third round of the AHL playoffs later this week. Willander could join Abbotsford for the remainder of its playoff run, but that isn’t a guaranteed conclusion."

Not even the best choice of currently employed Canuck coaches.
Sure success as a player always translates to success in coaching.

Why does it matter to you?
He has familiarity with the team and management. He has coached the defence for a couple of years. He is coaching the best defenceman in the league who seems to be onside. He was a really good player and has won at different levels, possibly he can share what it takes to be competitive.
Your Kelowna team was crap, but there’s your sticking point.

Agreed, but how a person responds can be viewed as disrespectful and mocking which many do with EK.
