Holy poop there are some names from the past

Wings have moved down in 6 of their past 7 drafts and stayed the same once. The last time they've had a top 3 pick was 35 years ago. They've had a whopping three top three picks over the past half century. EDM had more #1 picks in a 5 year span that Detroit has had in their existence as a franchise. Islanders have had as many #1 picks in the 2000's as Detroit in it's existence. When it was time for Pittsburgh to rebuild, they got numerous top 3 picks. When it was time for Colorado to rebuild, they got numerous top 3 picks. When it was time for Chicago, they got numerous top 3 picks more than once. The Rangers get top 3 picks when they are a playoff team. Toronto gets top 3 picks when they need them. Of course, Montreal had more #1 picks in the first 6 years of the NHL draft, than Detroit has gotten over six decades, and they still keep coming for Mtl.

Face it, when it comes to the draft, either the Wings are cursed, or someone doesn't want them getting high draft picks. We know the NHL desperately wants the Hockeytown trademark.
