Well he did have 50 power play points… quite the lethal power play. Could use that! - Mahewman
He did. I think that would be quite useful. Unfortunately O'Brien would need some time (just like most of the prospects that we would select). I think he would be a high upside prospect, especially if he is given a full season as the #1 center in junior.
But depending on who you look at, he may not even be available. So who knows?!
EDIT: Also if this is underlying sarcasm that half his points are pp points, I challenge you to watch their power plays and see how he handles the puck. He drives the play on the majority of them. It's the difference between being the shooter on the play who always sets up in the same spot, and the player who is smart enough to move defenders with puck possession in a way so those shooters can get open.
We need the latter first |

I did start with some sarcasm since you said I was wrong about them playing together but I do think the Bruins could use a player capable of taking over a powerplay. Deceptive play making is a need. Pasta needs himself a Backstrom. I’m not against the pick.
It is fun to talk about the draft though. We haven’t had this important a pick in a long time.
Since we’re bringing up past draft picks. Do you know whose junior stats are eerily similar??
Zach Hamill. 93 points. 57 on the power play 😭 why couldn’t they take Couture 😞

Speaking of improving the power play. I did also like what I saw from Frondell. Has a big lefty shot that you could put opposite side of Pasta. He probably won't be available but if he is. Sign me up. |

Another name I wouldn't mind having. Just hard for me to tell who is available. Frondell would be an excellent selection.
To your other post, yeah it's fun to talk about. I actually watched more jr hockey than bruins this year because the product sucked. So it is fun to muse on where young players might be in the NHL.
You make a fair point with hamil vs couture. Makes you wonder the systems that brought them both up. (It's also individual work ethic which 100% should be on every scouts radar) |

I think just about all of the prospects this year will have to stew. Very few are ready for the jump.
O’Brien looks like a solid kid to bring up. Heads up player. Reads defenses well.
Sorry to intrude, btw. The Flyers writers haven’t been posting new stuff, and they locked our only thread. I’m not a puppy-eating, baby-kickin Philly fan type, and since you draft one spot after us, I’m curious about your thoughts.

It's all good. I think there is a lot of uncertainty in the 3-8 range and it will really depend on what teams are looking for. It's nice to see a lot of centers at the top.
I want to see the bruins draft someone who's game is more well rounded and has a strong compete level. For me power forwards that score a lot are high risk for our system because the bruins organization hasn't been good about growing talent. So drafting someone who is used to pushing their way around jr, then bringing them to the NHL and not being able to have the same success physically is a huge wake up call. Takes the right development approach to work on the right areas of their game to support their success.
On the other hand a more well rounded player can adapt much quicker to the game. I like O'Brien, Desnoyers and Hagens because they make their lines better, find passing lanes and know when to shoot if necessary. If all you have to work on is a little speed and putting on weight, quicker turn around and higher ceiling for bruins.
That's what I would prefer, but my gut tells me Sweeney will take a player like McQueen, or Martone if he falls that far. |

We need a center in Philly as well. I think Frondell and Desnoyers have been on their radar for some time. If Hagens falls into their laps, that’ll be hard to pass up. It’ll also mean at least one of Frondell and Desnoyers have been chosen, if not both.
Of course, they also need defense. Going off board for Mrtka isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
Now, it wouldn’t surprise me is Briere traded down a few spots if he can pick up drafts choices and still get someone like McQueen. A big kid like that is intriguing. It all comes down to whether or not they are scared of his back injuries.
Then again, they could totally screw the pooch for the millionth time and get that antiquated “Philly” guy. They needed defense terribly last year and Buium fell into their lap. What did they do? Trade back and he was immediately snapped up. Then Helenius was still there for them, but they went Luchenko and our message board lost its collective mind.
So don’t worry. We’re apt to fall on our faces.
We’ll see. Absolutely nothing is in stone after Schaefer and Misa go. There’s no consensus anything.
Peace. Good talkin. |
