2: There are alot of offensive players that wouldn't be considered useful if they stopped scoring. But since Nylander has been, year after year, a very good scoring threat/point producers for the Leafs in the playoffs, I don't think he needs to be worried about "hiding behind" anything.

The Leafs have way bigger problems than Nylander not getting a point for only the 2nd time in the 2024-2025 playoffs.

Nylander play can be a concern at times of course, but without him we probably wouldn't even be where we are now. Dude was huge in the round one clinching game and provided the offense we needed in games 1 and 2 of the second round. I'd be more inclined to call Matthews out than worry about Willy.

The.primary job of both players is to provide top level scoring for this team to succeed. One guy is doing it and the other isn't. We're here because Nylander is producing. The series have been close because Matthews isn't.

The lines Matthews, Marner, and Knies are up against also aren’t producing. Matthews is clearly hurt, focusing 100% on defence. It sucks but it is what it is.

And why does everyone just ignore the positive things I say about Willy? It’s like you’s don’t even want to a conversation in good faith. Not you so much, but everyone else.

You just can’t tell me that Willy is doing everything he can to help the team win. He’s scoring goals up until the last couple games, but everyone puts blinders on when it comes to his defending. He won’t take a hit to make a play, he won’t get in shooting lanes to block shots, he won’t challenge anyone with the puck in the defensive zone. Just little stick lifts. Man, this might sound funny at first glance but the little hints are starting to become warning signs. Berube is clearly having a hard time getting through to Willy about certain things.

Now, Willy’s offence has been good in the playoffs up until the last couple games. So I’m not criticizing his performance. However, as I’ve always said at some point somethings going give here between Cheif and Styles. Berube puts on this facade that everything’s great, etc.. but these subtle hints in the media are tremors (so to speak). He also said last week, “ Willy doesn’t like when I talk to him.” Sooooo… how are we supposed to interpret this?

To me he’s saying, “I can’t coach him how I want because he’s putting up points, but there’s things I’d like him to change.” He’s very clear about how he feels about the other main players, he never says anything tongue-in-cheek. Once Willy cools off, and he will, then poop will hit the fan.

Off the top of my head, Tortorella said this season that he "gives up" trying to tell Michkov not to make flashy plays because he kept doing them. He said this after Michkov scored on what I think was another michigan goal.

He didn't say this to whine about Michkov, he said it as a lighthearted joke/comment about the personality and skill of his player.

I feel Berube's comment is a similar thing.
