That's why Toronto is and forever will be the mecca of pro hockey. These guys just watch them from the shadows, likely spending as much time hating the leafs as they do cheering for their own team JUST to poke around when they lose, like 31 teams (some even better than Toronto!) every year.
We'll see some change this year. It's a perfect year for it. Easy to let guys move on. - Aaron_85
I think it's just that Toronto does have a huge fanbase and they get alot of attention from the media. Being in the spotlight emplifies their succcesses and failures.
But, and I love you Aaron, but spewing things like "we're the mecca of pro hockey" also makes other fan bases want to see you fail so much more.

Three years ago this statement would’ve been the same but would’ve been talking about TB.
Panthers made those serious steps and here they are. The Leafs could get there, it’s not like they’re miles behind right now. They just need to identify the guys who won’t fully buy in to the team plan and move on from them.
One thing that sticks out to me is how many times I’ve heard Maurice praising the team for all buying in and doing what it takes. “The way I ask them to play is hard work and isn’t (always) fun.” (paraphrased). The Leafs aren’t as far off as the game 7 result makes many think. They made steps towards playing a more “playoff” style this year, now they have to build on that.
The onus is on the Leafs front office to make the right moves this summer. It will only work if everybody is committed to the team above self. - Ratsreign
I’m closer to this thinking than I am to the blow it up thinking. The best take on game 7 came from Berube who said that there are days when your A game just isn’t there which is when you really have to stick to your system. They managed to do that earlier in the series and won or stayed close in games where they were outplayed for stretches. For whatever reason, Leafs reverted back to old ways in two critical games. Like Tyson said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
Changes are needed and Marner needs to go, partly because that might be the only big change available to them. They need more guys who have the discipline to stick with the plan even when they take a few punches to the mouth.

Look, I'm not gonna defend the "run it back" idea because it would be pure insanity at this point. Significant changes must happen for the Leafs to get past teams like Florida and win the cup.
But I will say two things:
1: The 2024-2025 Leafs was a good team. Going to 7 games, even if you finish with two embarassing losses is still getting pretty close to beating what is likely the best team in the east. I mean they defeated Tampa, another juggernaut if you ask me, in only 5 games! I think the available cap space this summer will allow them to acquire different kind of players to better complement the core players that will remain.
2: Toronto can inspire themselves from Florida. A few years ago, they made the playoffs and got eliminated in the 2nd round, getting swept in the process. What did they do? They traded their record-setting first line LW (Huberdeau) and one of their best defensemen (Weegar) in the Tkachuk trade.
Of course it would have been the right time to do that kind of move two years ago when Marner still had a no trade clause or before they signed Nylander but it's never too late to do the right thing and turn their cap space into a similar change. - Scabeh
Who does Florida lose in the offseason? Bennett? Marchand?
Hypothetically if leafs run it back do they beat a Florida team without those 2 players? Who does Florida replace them with?
Leafs could potentially bring everyone back. |

If they win another Cup they may not be too much motivated anymore.
Also they playing more hockey than any other team for the last 3 years, it should take toll on them physically. |

If Toronto is the most hated fan base Montreal is a close second. Both are insufferable unless you are in them.

Honestly, I think canucks are the worst. There's just not as many of them compared to the other two. |

Boston is 3rd when it comes to hockey but if we are doing a list of the most insufferable pro sports fans Boston may just may be atop the leader board.
I mean Bruins, Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox fans who is worse?

I forgot about them as most people do until they do something idiotic like try to burn down their city. That being said - they are up there for sure but they are one of the loser fanbases who spend more time watching the Leafs and cheering when the Leafs don't succeed than for their own team.
Add Ottawa and Buffalo to that pile.
The mere fact other team fanbases are yapping saying the Leafs choked after they took the defending cup champs to game 7 in the second round is just laughable and proves Aaron's point even more.
Leafs poop the bed in 2 games in the series and still nearly won lol. |

The key is more elbows, and not just any old elbow, really try to shoot for that CTE, and by god, make it sneaky so it doesn't get called. |

2024/2025 Playoff Stats between the 2 top paid wingers for the Leafs:
 - Cush29
Ya Marner > Willy. Marner is the bestus evaaaa!!! Piss Flaps Aardvark can suck it.
Too bad it didn't show cap hit comparison. Pretty sure the 30th and 31st players in play off points don't get paid 30th and 31st money.
Mikkola is right behind both of them. Fuking Mikkola!!! |
