I find it hard to contemplate trading players for that top 6 forward to play alongside Stutzle. Batherson is mentioned as someone the Sens could trade. But I wonder ..... we want size , speed, scoring ability and a bit of grit. Isn't that what Batherson brings? But he only has 2 more years on that really team friendly contract and then will probably be due for a raise .... 5-6 years at $7-8 million?
But what if we could make a 1 for 1 trade, with no other additions, add ons, or draft picks.

Straight up ........ Batherson to Buffalo for JJ Peterka. Peterka is a better scorer, rumoured to want out of Buffalo, has speed and familiarity with Stu. But will need a new contract as an RFA. Batherson will be a UFA when his contract runs out. Batherson can be hot and cold over time. Okay, maybe we throw in a prospect like Crookshank.
Can be suitable for Buffalo as they have to change up their mix a bit. Batherson can play with Norris for the Sabres and both are pretty positive guys.

It would have to be Batherson plus.

And then you have to spend 7.5 million to sign peteryka.

Batherson is good at what he does and is a great price.

Better to threaten to sign peterka to 7 x 7million and then try to work on deal with Sabres

Kleven signed 2 x 1.6million. Perfect price point.

He's a UFA, so if they made cap space it could be done so improve other positions of weakness.

I'm not a fan of trading batherson bit if they sign a top line guy it makes more sense.

Don't see marner signing here though, and the cap hit would be huge.

I don't see Marner signing anywhere in Canada. I think he is tired of the circus and wants peace and quiet at home going forward.

Saw a piece where they chatted about Ottawa and Dallas trading ..... Robertson to Ottawa for a minimum of Batherson. I just don't see this one at all, although Dallas would need to make some cap space especially if they chase Marner. If they were to get someone like Robertson, I don't see them pursuing Giroux.

But I see Ottawa's primary goal to get a defenceman ... right side just in case Jensen is not ready.
Then they decide on how to fill in the hole in the top 6 wingers.
